Monday, this week began with my last full day in Maine, AA back to school, her 4th day as a 10th grader. After school, AA had a Moxie. Not sure how she came about trying one, but she did not care for the taste.
Weather was gorgeous! We could have stayed at the lake, but wanted to see Patti this visit. Lake was so calm, I paddle boarded in the morning.
Met Patti for shopping at L.L. Bean and lunch at Mast Landing and Nighthawk Kitchen (Shaw's plaza in Freeport, near highway, the old "Carter's" clothing/baby store). I bought new jeans, a shirt, black bathing suit top, pants for Ford, plaid hoodie for AA, plus maple syrup, pancake mix and blueberry syrup for Ian/family.The "boot"!
After coming home, we decided to drive to the Oxford Casino which was a bust, fun but a bust! Totally blew away my $20.00 in an hour. Won some money, then lost it!
A selfie with Patti and the Mast Landing Brewery.
Nighthawk Kitchen food - I ordered the three fish tacos, Mom had the patty melt, Melissa had the Rueben, Patti had a burger Build - BYOB. Since the beer has to stay on the brewery side, you order food from a kiosk and it is delivered to the bar. All good, would go back again. After coming home, we decided to drive to the Oxford Casino which was a bust, fun but a bust! Totally blew away my $20.00 in an hour. Won some money, then lost it!
We went to the Auburn Amato's to get my Italian sandwich on the way home. Yummy! At the camp, sat on the deck awhile, I showered and packed, ready to head back to Florida on Tuesday/tomorrow.
Tuesday: Flew from Portland to Charlotte with an interesting blind lady accompanied by her new black Labrador. First I ate brunch at Linda bean's restaurant (no breakfast menu so had the crab cake melt with a mimosa - Splurge!).
Suzanne Ament was very interesting, we did not ask names, just interesting stories about her time in the Soviet Union (she's fluent in Russia, interviewing citizens of all ages), writing a book on songs of WWII, college, her travels, teaching in Virginia, etc. She asked about my career and we found out that we are two years apart (she graduated in 1982, Masters in 1984). She wanted her book translated into Russian, and eventually found a college alumni who donated the money to her college, which was then earmarked to pay for the translator. I searched on WWII Soviet songs and found her!
Texted this photo to Mom for proof!
