Week of January 20th and NFJG SJGCC Cancelled During Play!

A quick recap of the week!
We drove to Cathy and Werner's to pick up AA's Christmas gift from Kilee/Justin. We visited with Nicole and Jordan and AA played with Avery and Mila. Werner performed a few magic tricks, and we did sip some wine too. Always a nice time at Cathy's.
Monday was the NFJG Tournament, then a chilly visit at the River House, our usual Monday happy hour.
Tuesday, a golf lesson and then Wednesday AA had math club and a round of nine holes with Ms. Penny. It was beautiful weather, so decided to have a glass of wine on the River House deck BUT it was chilly once the sun went down. Cold weather is coming with low's in the 30's for a week! Ford made a new shrimp recipe, pasta and sauce, made with sweet chili sauce; we decided it was too sweet, would be good made with regular chili sauce.
Thursday morning brought 1.5 inches of rain in 3 hours, but drier and sunny in the afternoon.
After school, AA and her Daddy selected new glasses; AA picked ones with gray metal, more square, with a twist detail on the side. AA said she liked them, very cool. Then to Target to buy another pair of leggings/stretchy slacks for winter and then to Mr. Story, AA's math tutor.
Ford made homemade pizza, always a favorite.
Friday, AA played a practice round at St. Johns Golf and Country Club, her next NFJG tournament is there, on Sunday.
Saturday I worked at SJRPP, the 26th.
Sunday turned out wet and COLD. AA played until the 8th hole and then the tournament was suspended and then cancelled. So miserable for the players! We have had many mild winter days but Sundays have been frigid!

NFJG Monday's I've Got a Dream Golf Tournament

AA is playing in the #NFJG I’ve Got a Dream Golf Tournament. Very cold but at least 40’s; a little chilly, Jack said he's loving it. @ Jacksonville Golf And Country Club.

On a crazy weather day like we had on Monday the first thing that I like to do is take all the elements into account and figure out what PAR would actually look like based on conditions. Taking into account all the factors and I determined it to 77. Five shots harder than it would have been with mild weather and this is what all players should evaluate so you don’t get frustrated with a pack of bogeys. Remember everyone is playing in the same conditions. In my view, in bad weather, bogeys equate like par. 
In the Girls Elite Division Kylie Turner would fire a very respectable 85 to nip JGCC resident Annabelle Mozingo (87) by two strokes. Bunnell’s Beatrice Dietz would take the third place award two back with a score of 89. The Rising Tour Girls Division found Jacksonville’s Balaskiewicz playing in her first event of the year would take a one stroke victory over Orange Park’s Alyzabeth Morgan (96). Morgan earning the Silver Medal would edge out Jacksonville’s Emma Wells by one stroke as well (97). Wells would claim the Bronze.

OPE Robotics Team - Jane Weigand Interview

Follow up to the Robotics Competition on January 11th, the Clay Today reporter interviewed Jane Weigand. Alyzabeth is in one of the photos and Jane describes what the team means to her. Nice exposure for the county robotics efforts.

Halfway Through the 6th Grade!! All A's Again! And Lakeside Invitation

OPE held the 6th Grade Awards on 01/16/19 at 1:30. I took off a half day from work to attend. AA was awarded the 6th Grade Special Recognition for Outstanding Achievement in Math, plus the A's Honor Roll and perfect attendance for the quarter. AA, Connor and Jane:

Happy Daughter! We are so happy she studies, finishes her homework ahead of due date, reads ferociously and has good conduct. She may have a quiet voice but will always be a valuable team member with her courage, boldness (in her own way), independence and a bit of silliness when her ability to understand the quirks, nuances with the English language make us roll on the floor laughing. No fakeness about her!

Halfway through the school year!! Which means invitations to advanced studies at Junior High Schools; Lakeside came this week. I believe we are still leaning towards the IB program at Orange Park Junior High.

University of Florida Golf Clinic - Do it Again in January 2020!

While I worked for six hours at the plant, Ford and AA drove to Gainesville for the UF Golf Clinic.
Addie Baggarly assisted during the clinic and Ford and AA spoke to Lauren Waidner (here's the link to both their signing article to the University of Florida Women's Golf program).
Head Coach Emily Glaser and assistant Janice Olivencia divided the girls into two groups, the younger girls were with Janice (age 12 - 15), the older girls up to age 16 were with Emily.
The afternoon, playing the front nine holes (closed to the public), AA was partnered with two sisters, Ellie and Ava and third, Celce (unknown spelling). AA was one of two youngest in the clinic; one other 6th grader (the other 6th grader looked older as she was a head taller than AA, but both are in the same grade). 
Ford spoke of AA's best putt on Hole 7, was hard shot, off the green, speed got her close, but she did end up three-putting. Can't wait until she goes again next year!

Ford and AA also were impressed with the Athlete Program housed in a private building for all 500 athletes, including a life skills coach to maximize their time, plus tutors, counselors, study areas, lounge, also housed "grab and go" food, sport drinks area (sports nutrition program), all at no charge, all free - a $125 million yearly program for Athletes.

OPE Robotics Field Trip Competition! Team's Project is the Winner!

Friday was the OPE Robotics Team competition and OPE won the project idea - first place! I didn't hear about the actual robotic competition, AA said something about not working? We do have a video of her's and Owen's robot functioning, so not sure why this team hasn't placed in three years. So winning the project top award was sweet!

A Girl and Her Dog

We have had beautiful weather for a week now, even record temperatures on New Years Day - 83! Today is Sunday, AA golfed, I took down the Christmas tree and packed away all the decorations (partially reorganizing the garage). 
I took advantage of the sunny day and took some photos of AA and her dog. School begins Tuesday, the 8th!

Play Time during School Break - At River House

We hosted a play date at the River House for 10 of AA's friends, eight were able to come play with AA (nine total). We asked them to bring their Nerf dart guns and come hungry! We fed them cheese pizza, hotdogs, shrimp, salad, vegetables, chips, cole slaw, etc. They mostly only ate the cheese pizza!! Star War movies were on the TV, they played outside, Cops and Robbers, and made paper airplanes, tried to stick playing cards into watermelon (failure even though AA was the only one who did stick a card!). AA also won the Nerf target game (knocking over the most solo cups). The scavenger hunt was won by AA's team, with Ian and Dylan.

Paper Airplanes: I asked them to declare a winner which was Noah (Connor and AA had good planes, Noah used a ball of paper to throw, it really wasn't an airplane).

I think the day went well. Then at 5:00 p.m. we hosted hot-dogs with Hugh, Maureen, Kathy, Mary Jo and others. It was so NOISY!!! A wedding party of about 50 people came over at 4:00 p.m. and about half were still there when we left. So noisy, it was hard to visit. Now a couple days of rest and taking down Christmas decorations!

NFJG First Coast Junior Amateur - Rising Girls Winner

This tournament was the last of the Fall season and the last Web.com two-day tournament. We were hoping for good scores, but reality is that she never played these two courses, had no practice rounds, no caddie, so pretty much relying on all her skills to keep the ball in the fairway. The Lagoon course (5500 yards) and the longer Ocean course (6000 yards), these courses are known for narrow fairways and strong winds. AA said the wind just kept taking her ball where it was not intended! She did beat the rising girls competition for this tournament, but not very pretty. And she missed the Web.com championship by 50 points.

In the Elite Tour Girls 13-18 Division Gainesville’s young Katelyn Huber would come up short to win the tournament overall award, but her outstanding play would be the talk of the town as she took home the champions trophy with a second round score of seven over par 79, total 149.  In the overall Huber placed tied for fourth out of 65 eligible players. Ponte Vedra’s Reni Jancsik had a rough go of it during round one on the Lagoon Course shooting an uncharacteristic score of 84, but she showed her game with the girl’s low round of the day with a one over par 73 on the tough Ocean Course. Jancsik had six birdies on the round to counter a couple unfortunate double bogeys. Huber with the win will earn a fully paid exemption into the First Coast Women's Amateur.
In the Rising Tour Girls 13-18 Division Orange Parks Alyzabeth Morgan (85) would only have a two stroke cushion over St. Johns Shanya Arasu (87) going into the final round, but she would endure the longer and tougher Ocean Course to march on to a nine stroke victory to once again claim another major champion in North Florida Junior Golf. Shanya Arasu would skirt the late charge of Madelyn Campbell (who carded an unfortunate “15” at the par-5 3rd hole) to take home the Runner-up trophy.

Happy New Year 2019!

It's 2019! We started slow this morning, Ford made us breakfast, I barely started taking down some Christmas decorations when I realized it was going to be a beautiful day - about 80 degrees!! 
Ford and AA had a golf lesson scheduled and playing nine holes, so I texted cuz Carolyn and we headed to the beach for a sunny walk. After our walk, we ate delicious tacos at Taco Lu's. So enjoyed starting the year with cuz Carolyn!

The water was cool, almost numbed our feet. We saw many stranded jelly fish, only a few shells and no sea glass. We each took a picture of each other!

Carolyn wouldn't get her toes in the photo with the 2019, so those are my toes (she took the picture).

The Jacksonville Beach pavilion had a "Go Green" display - huge jelly fish made from plastic tubes stuffed with plastic trash! See background of our selfie:
