Last Weekend in May 2020! Kept Busy on Saturday!

Another weekend, another "self-sheltering". We drove to St. Augustine to give Jesse the miter saw that Hugh gave us. We had a short distanced chat with Leaa, Jesse and Liv. Dylan was at a sleep over. they are allowing neighborhood friends visits and play-dates and planning on sending the girls to a variety of summer camps. We shopped outdoors at Maggie's, love stopping there when in the area and bought two cone-flower plants for Liv and Dylan.

We are still struggling with how to get AA with friends, we are still cautious about being around other families. There is very little virus detected in Fleming Island, but who knows where it is? We will try a driveway visit and maybe with her friend Angel, meet at a restaurant while physically distancing.
Plants from Maggies:
We stopped at Sweet Sensations for take out lunch, we still will not eat inside a restaurant yet! At Maggie's, I always take a photo of  FM and AA:
New Clubs are arriving: The Wedge and 3-Wood:
We attended the weekly Saturday 5 PM Happy Hour group, always a good ZOOM chat with Hugh, Maureen, Kathy and Penny. We tried the virtual background which did not work!
Then we bought the new 2019 Emma movie and watched in the evening. And that ended Saturday!

Rain, Rain, Lots of Rain

A low front brought a lot of rain, sprinkles most of Memorial Day, then pockets of down pouring heavy rain on Tuesday. Wednesday we had thunderstorms and more rain on Friday. Wet week!

Penny dropped off two books for AA to borrow/read.
Always a sweet note:
I took off work on Thursday, so we went to lunch and had a ride to nowhere! The Hawkers menu is limited and my favorite was the only one not available.
Ice cream treat for Ford and AA:
Taking Ginger for a walk:
Smiling:
This is the last week of school for AA, next week (June 1st) is three days with early dismissal.
Now to figure out how to have fun during summer with or without family visits. We are trying to abide by CDC and still be a little mobile for AA's sake. She will have "summer school" lessons and many golfing events. We will continue picking up trash in our new neighborhood as a small community service task. We will go to Carolyn's to visit and pool time (not going to the neighborhood pools at this time). We have chores to do like clean out her room (when we moved in, she went from a large bedroom to a very small one). She still needs to finalize the paint color for her room. I guess it is time to make a list!

Monday, Memorial Day

I finally planted the ponderosa lemon tree Carolyn gave us, and AA and I went to her home for a visit.
At Carolyn's, ate corn dip, an Asian cabbage slaw salad and grilled hot dogs with AA and Tyler. It was raining, so no swimming, but did enjoy being outside.
We did binge watch Downton Abbey for a few hours Monday evening. Always a good time, love the funny quips!
Ford cooked steaks on the grill and we made a new pasta salad (Ford sitting on our screen porch eating our grilled steak "Memorial Day" dinner). AA/Ford's new pasta salad included black olives, feta cheese, sun dried tomatoes, fresh diced tomatoes with a dressing of capers, oil and more sun dried tomatoes.

Odds and Ends - Memorial Day Weekend

When we gave Coach Bryan a copy of the Clay Today, he gave us some sorrento peppers from his garden.

A new recipe, much like lasagna but with ground cooked sausage, very good, I made in two pans (9' and an 8").
I sent this photo to Dick Blaisdell, his father with my Papa Cobb:
Dick sent this photo, with his reflection in it:
I made popovers, very spur of the moment, Sunday afternoon, AA and Ford arrived home from the SJGC to hot from the oven:
And Monday is Memorial Day!

TITLEIST INVITATIONAL - St. Johns Golf Course

AA played in the two day Titleist #NFJG Tournament at the St. Johns Golf Club (Elkton). AA did not have a good score on Round 1 due to poor putting, she said the greens were very slow and three-putted five times. The greens at Eagle Harbor are very fast, she needs to figure out how to adjust during the round.
1:12 PM Round 1:

Emma Wells, Hannah Oberkehr, Alyzabeth Morgan

Round: 2 Date: May 24, 2020
Course: St. Johns Golf Club - South/North
Time: 9:09 AM Hole: 1
Alyzabeth Morgan 84
Grace Richards 84
Madelyn Campbell 86
AA placed 16th, she will have her ups and downs, so better playing next time!
Jack's Recap: In the Girls Overall Ponte Vedra’s Ashley Huffman would continue with her dominance as a Girls Elite Division player by posting steady rounds of three over par 74’s. She would nip the Runner-up Jacksonville’s Annabelle Mozingo by three shots. Mozingo would best her opening round 78 by five strokes to fire a nice two over par 73 for the low round of the day and tournament for the girls divisions.

Times-Union Sports Page - NFJG and AA!

From Facebook:
Double WOW! Two newspapers in one week. Jacksonville’s Times-Union ran an article about the #NFJG Foundation Florida Coast Ryder Cup Tournament last week. The writer was asking parents about their comfort level in opening back up the tournaments for junior players. Ford is quoted and AA is the center photo. Great promotion for junior golf! #jrgolf #AlyzabethMorganGolf

Clay Today Article 05/21/20

Randy Leftko interviewed AA last Thursday, May 14th. He emphasized the fact that she is playing with the "big girls" now. AA has been playing up for most of her golfing years. Last year she was a 12 year old, playing in the Rising Girls Group (age 13 - 18). She began playing in the NFJG Foundation when she was 8 and it was very long yardages for her at the time.
We were glad Bryan Kipnis was available and lots of mentions of the NFJG Tour.

Randy used three of his photos and one I took on 05/12/20.
This is the article he wrote five years ago:
Facebook: AA made the Clay Leader (free shorter version of the weekly Clay Today). A longer article should show up on the news stands today - with her Coach Bryan Kipnis. #AlyzabethMorganGolf #OPJH #girlsgolf #juniorgolf #NFJG #EagleHarborGolf #jrgolf

Week of May 18th

Monday was back to school for AA and a trip to the State Farm office, so we indulged and bought lunch to go at Sweet Sensations. Then a little practice at the range on Monday and her lesson on Tuesday with wine on the deck. Perfect!

AA and Ford made homemade ice cream!!
We donated two of Terri's homemade masks to a private school for autistic kids run by a local family, the Kramer's (adopted children from China).
I have an eye sty, a bit bothersome, so went to the doctor, all is good, will heal up eventually!
AA finally had her orthodontist appointment, our new washer and dryer were delivered on Thursday so no more laundry on the deck drying!
Friday, Ford baked a homemade pizza (homemade dough too!) and Saturday I joined the Happy Hour Zoom meeting while Ford and AA were at the golf NFJG tournament.

From Facebook:
Congratulations to #NFJG Tour Team for winning the inaugural Florida Coast Ryder Cup 2-day tournament! AA won her match play today with her best score of 76 at the Slammer and Squire. She enjoyed playing with Ashley Balcom on the Gold Coast Tour Team. Congratulations to Director Jack for managing to organize this format with 20 players per team and keeping everyone safe following CDC guidelines. Maybe will see an article about this in the Times-Union, Garry Smits #gsmitter was interviewing players and taking photos.

Jack's newsletter:
The “Florida Coast Junior Ryder Cup” was conducted in fine fashion with great competition between two great junior organizations to put another feather in the hat of getting junior golf in Florida rekindled. Twenty players from the Golf Coast Junior Golf Foundation took the 4-5 hour trip north to experience the game at the famous and renowned World Golf Village-Slammer and Squire course. Nearly a year ago after the Florida Junior Tours Team Championships at PGA National the concept of starting this event was envisioned between Executive Directors Jack Aschenbach (NFJGF) and Wayne McKinney (GCJGF) and this past weekend the contest was put in the history books.
Fleming Islands Chase Ricks and Palm Coasts Trevor Challice would be the two players on the NFJG TOUR team who would win all three matches. Ricks would fire a career low 69 on the day. Makayla Chau on the Gold Coast team would be the only three match winner.  Fleming Islands Alyzabeth Morgan, Orange City’s Tylar Ann Whiting and Jacksonville’s Anaiya Nahar would all earn 2 ½ points to help the team to victory.
Kudo’s to the Coaches Vince and Lauren Carver from Golf Coast and Lynne Kirkpatrick and Charles Collings from NFJGF for leading and inspiring the junior field.
