Friday Prayer vigil for Ian at the Bold Bean Coffee Shop as a northeaster has blown in for two days (was planned for outside on the river). Very rainy, windy (25 - 50+ wind gusts) and COLD! Ford smoked ribs in the rain near the garage door, they cooked just fine. In the evening, we heard the sad news that Ian's cancer is back in his lungs, a relapse as it is called. Heavy treatment and surgery in his future. From Mom Shannon: Honestly, trying to find the right words to start with, and this is the best I have--Ian has relapsed. Before I go any further, I want to talk to you about the strength of our EE. In true EE fashion, he had researched osteosarcoma relapse, case studies, and his medically spoken statistical odds after relapse-AND of course, he discussed this all with Dr. Allie. In the most difficult of times and most difficult conversations, David and I sat in awe of him. Through our heart break of receiving this news, there sat our son, talking through his treatment plan and discussing the pros and cons of each with his doctor. So strong and so brave and still so much to do here...Now back to the "make me sick to my stomache" talk--the good news is, there are no additional nodules, the bad news, the concerning nodule grew. So, now we move forward. We, as a family, will make a decision as to which treatment option feels right. The problem is, there is no right answer, because there is no "true" standard of care for osteosarcoma relapse. So, we will pray upon and discuss his options, and move forward. Treatment will begin next week. We do know, that treatment will consist of lung surgery to remove the nodule, and Ian has been told that it will be a difficult surgery because of the location of the lung nodule. The timing of the surgery will depend upon treatment chosen. Please continue to lift our family in prayer as we digest all things we were told today and move forward in the days to come and his treatment. #riseup #NoOnecriesalone #joshua1nine
Saturday: AA zip lining with Ian was cancelled due to the horrendous weather! Liv's play Anne Frank was a success, such a sad book to use for the high school theater play.
At the restaurant, then Liv left to work the 8 p.m. show with the second drama crew. With Leaa, makes four generations:
After the play, we met at a Taco restaurant (at Hwy 16/Route 1). Good food and visited with some of the family (Nicole and Jordan + kids; Cara and Travis + kids; Liv, Dylan, Cathy and Werner. Christa and new beau Lawrence, plus Angie and Charles were also at the play.
Sunday: 48 degrees for the low today! It did warm up to 64 degrees, Joy and I went to Marshall's and Aldi's. Taco soup in the slow cooker was dinner.
And a text to wish Leaa and Jesse a Happy Anniversary:
