Sunday NFJG Plantation Pay, Ormond Beach - Tie for First!

AA and Ford left early (6:30 a.m.) for their drive to the golf tournament. With her 9:04 a.m. tee time, we were all up early this morning.

I'm doing laundry, shelling pistachios for a biscotti recipe. Walking Ginger, cleaned out one cupboard in the kitchen, much better now! I made two batches of biscotti - one with dried cranberries, almond flavoring with olive oil; the other batch with dried cherries, butter and cinnamon. Worked on AA's Advent calendar, signed some Christmas cards, finding supplies to make a Christmas Card banner for our fireplace, and we all added more ornaments on the tree and lastly preparing for dinner when my LOVES arrive home (a little prep work for bruschetta). Plus my bath and relaxing time!

AA played well scoring a 77 (Par = 71, so 6 over, one birdie). She had one bad hole - her first one was a double bogey. So the rest of her round was great! She played with Emma Wells (14 years old) and tied for first place which went into a playoff with Danielle Dailey (12 years old). After tying the first hole, a 100 yard closest to the pin was won by Danielle, her first win in the Elite Division. We remember that feeling with AA two years ago!

Awarded 2nd Place:

NFJG Newsletter Highlights/Summary:

In our Elite Tour Girls Fleming Islands Alyzabeth Morgan was atop the leaderboard once more. She and St. Augustine’s Danielle Dailey would tie at the top spot with a pair of 77’s. Ponte Vedra’s Grace Richards would take the Bronze Medal posting a score of seven over par 78. Morgan and Dailey would head to the first tee for sudden death. They would tie the hole and would head into a closest to the pin contest to determine this week’s champion. Dailey would capture the Gold with the closest shot and Morgan would grab the Silver Medal.

Black Friday + Christmas Decorating!

Friday: Another beautiful day, warm, sunny! AA had a golf lesson after we selected and bought our 2020 Christmas tree.
We put the tree in the stand, I installed the icicle lights along our deck railing, cleaned out one front gutter that had a plant growing out of it (!!) and dragged all the Christmas boxes from the garage. We spent 45 minutes in the evening adding ornaments. About 75% done!
We enjoyed eating leftovers - ate pie for breakfast! Our Christmas tree is about 7.5 feet tall (8.5' including tree stand and star topper). After tree shopping, AA had a golf lesson.

Even though we were outside, the trees are very close together,  passing by many families searching for trees - so masks on!

Front door has a little Christmas cheer, the first photo is from my attempt at Fall decorating - the pretty zinnias died, so looks bare:

Saturday: Another beautiful day!! Cold weather coming mid-week - the dreaded 30's! We ate pie for breakfast (again) and leftover turkey and gravy plus sides for lunch. AA did a couple hours of school work (CVA-World History).
AA golfed for two hours at 3:00 p.m. with Daddy following her. I went to Walmart to get a few items, and surprisingly it was not crowded, seems mid-Saturday afternoon is a lull in the action.
We had our usual and very fun Happy Hour Zoom, talking politics, jokes and movies. We didn't cook dinner as we were full from the cheese and crackers. We have been watching more movies than usual since we have FREE HBO for the weekend. Watched Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts, pretty good!), also Julie and Julia (again), a few new Christmas Hallmark movies, AA has enjoyed Spider Man.
AA and I took two bike rides. My new bike is a bit tall for me, still waiting on AA's to be delivered. I continue to walk Ginger on my days off. I only work two days per week now!

Thanksgiving Day with Carolyn!

Happy Thanksgiving Day! We had plenty of turkey and overall the day went well, warm about 80 degrees! Carolyn came with Bella and we enjoyed our small family dinner with two turkeys. All delicious food including the cherry berry pie and pumpkin pie. We chatted on messenger with my Maine family, plus called Joy and Leaa. I'm wearing the apron Joy made for me and the raw turkey in the roaster Joy gifted us:

Grammie Merrill's Wood and Sons china from 1917:
Carolyn brought champagne!
Dogs waiting for a walk:
Messenger Video Chats with Terri's group, Melissa's group and Mom (at home). We watched the unmolding of Aunt Elsie's green salad! Perfect!
Dinner:
Pies!! Pumpkin and cherry berry:
Smoked 20 lbs turkey:
Selfies: My arm gets in the way!
A very good time, so glad Carolyn could come!
While Carolyn was here, we had her take some pictures, possibly for our 2020 Christmas cards.

Wednesday 11/25/20

Wednesday: The day before Thanksgiving. I was very happy to have the day off, as I baked two pies, made the "do ahead" mashed potatoes and did some chopping, prepared the turkeys and made turkey broth getting ready for gravy tomorrow.

AA and Ford drove to the TPC for her new clubs final fitting. Adjustments were made on her irons 5 and 6 plus her driver.

While they were gone, I baked the pumpkin and cheery berry pies. While I was washing the dishes, close to 1:00 p.m., Terri and I "facetimed" for a few minutes. Maine had a dusting of snow today!

Pies:

Grammie's china, ready for our small dinner party of four:

After a quiet afternoon (played one game of Scrabble with AA), Ford and I walked to Talons and enjoyed the cool weather and a glass of wine (beer for him).
And now we are ready for Thanksgiving. Ford will smoke a 19 pound turkey and I will roast a small 9 pound turkey. Yum!

Haircut! It's been over a year.....

We finally made an appointment to have AA's hair trimmed. It is about an inch shorter than what she wanted (Steve cut off five inches). Looks healthy and hoping it helps reduce tangles.

Did you know that Hole 5 green is the highest point in Duval County? I didn't know until Kevin Glynn posted on Facebook!
From Facebook: Haven't said much about AA and her golfing lately. She plugs away at it daily and plays her best each tournament. Playing with the 13- 18 Elite Girls is always a challenge, and when she shoots a low score at a difficult course, its a happy reward! Congratulations to her win at Hidden Hills.  #NFJG #hiddenhillsgolf #GirlsGolf #juniorgolf #PlaytoWin

Director Jack's Highlights:
As we round the corner headed towards the holidays and the New Year we hit the links at Hidden Hills Golf Club for another great pre-holiday test of golf in the “Open at the Hills”. This northern style track with plenty of elevation changes is a treat to play and has a serious challenge for even the best of golfers. If you’ve played the course before then you know you have to use every shot in the bag and to be competitive you must be able to work the ball in all directions and have a keen imagination to get the ball up and down when in trouble.
Fleming Island’s Alyzabeth Morgan playing in the Elite Tour Girls Division would win the Gold Medal by four strokes over Puerto Rico’s Alanis Santiago (79). Morgan would shoot a personal best three over par 75* besting her previous low round of 78. She accomplished this by playing steady par golf with just one birdie in the round which came at the par-4 8th hole.  Santiago taking the Silver Medal also did it with her TOUR best round of 79. Tears of joy would be enough to tell anyone watching how important this milestone and moment was.  Middleburg’s Neva Winslow (82) would win her first medal of the season and she too would accomplish this feat by carding her best round on TOUR. I go back to my statement in my last write-up, “What are these kids eating?”
*Note: AA's low round is a 73. 01/26/20 At Eagle Harbor: Kondal would take the Gold Medal this week, but Fleming Islands Alyzabeth Morgan is also making her move to the top of the Girls rankings. Morgan would once again play some very special golf taking the Silver Medal for her fine performance with a one over par 73.  Four birdies on the day would keep her four strokes ahead of senior Isabel Matos who shot a nice pair of 7’s (77) earning her the Bronze Medal.
