First Coast Women's Amatuer Tournament at Eagle Harbor

Ms. Penny is the organizer of the First Coast Women's Amatuer Golf Tournament and in the past there was an age limit of 13 years old. With other large Florida Amatuer tournaments lowering it, this one was opened to two 12 year olds (K . Huber).
AA was excited and nervous about playing with so many of her golf partners who are now in college.
She started round one playing bogey golf which was expected from the green tees. She was playing well and made a few "par's" too. She made it over the marsh on Hole 15 from the green tee, so happy for her. Round Two was the opposite on the same Hole 15 plus on another hole, she hit one out of bounds then in the water, so took an 8. Ended with an 88 - 92.
After the tournament, AA said there was two things, one she was nervous about playing with the "women" and also that riding in a cart the whole time did not allow her to have her usual tournament routine/rhythm.
I helped for a couple of hours at the registration table with Polly (age 91 and still plays golf twice a week, began playing golf at age 42 and was good enough to play in the Women's Amateur Tournament!).

AA putting/practicing:
Round two with K. Richards, last hole for them was the par three Hole 13.
Scoring table round one (round two, they were in pairs, ut three-some):
Tori saying her thank you's - especially to her Dad:
Tori, the winner!
Tori Mouton:

The end! Ms. Penny and Tori walking back to the club house after the final photos were taken.
What a job Penny did - from securing the golf course, negotiating rates, working with Marshall on the tee times, pairings, golf cart signs; the awards, trophies, planning the luncheon, food and program, sponsors with signs and banners, sponsor bags for each player, on the course managing the play and the volunteers for scoring and time management; people to do the coolers, water and ice, the starters, etc. She was the MC for the awards ceremony and spoke so well. So much to admire. I am sure she did much more!

Happy Father’s Day 2019!

This was an interesting weekend. AA went to the Collins post-school book burning party Friday evening. An evening fire pit is available to throw in old school workbooks and school papers. Ian was there, so Owen and AA visited with Ian while others swam in the pool.
We enjoyed a golf cart drive when I arrived home from work, with Ginger between us. When we drove through the pool parking lot, a lady shouted out that my hair matched the dog’s! Then a drink at Talons and waited for AA to arrive home. So sweet of parents (Weigand and Kinder) to pick up AA and drop them off.
Saturday, I went to work, AA practiced her putting. I came home and took her to Carolyn’s for an over night stay. Ford and I went to Kilee’s finale dance recital. Kilee had more than a dozen dances from tap dance to ballet to jazz to rap. Each had a costume change. She had to be exhausted! And no photos to prove it except for one blurry one I snuck in.

We came home and again enjoyed a drink at Talons as we were kidless and dogless! Plus, being 400 steps from Talons makes for an easy replacement to our still favorite River House.
Sunday morning was relaxing, kidless and dogless, I made homemade biscuits for the Daddy for breakfast. I went and retrieved the daughter, thanking cousin Carolyn for having her overnight, while Ford ran to the grocery. Finally, Fathers Day began. We took Ford to the Fishweir Brewery and enjoyed some family time with about 50 other families. Good beer and tacos with Ford.

From Facebook:
Happy Father’s Day! It takes a man of kindness, patience, strength, and compassion to set the fine example of fatherhood that you have (well, AA calls you a bit annoying right now!). Happy Father’s Day to my sweet hubby of 33.5 years and the best Daddy of Justin, Leaa and Alyzabeth. May all the fathers enjoy their day!
AA gave her Daddy two gifts he wanted, a new golf hat (a week later as EH sold out by Fathers Day) and a St. Louis Cardinals windshield sun shade.
I added blueberries to a few of the biscuits:
How time flies so quickly. Next weekend, AA is playing in the First Coast Woman’s Amateur Golf Tournament. Age 13 is the minimum plus needing the handicap. The Women’s Board invited two 12 year olds. A Gainesville girl and a Fleming Island girl - AA! She may come not be in the winners circle, but she’ll try - what an honor!

Week of June 11th - 14th

Never finished this Post - I am so far behind, did not do well through June, July 2019. First full week without school.
Wednesday: AA had PGA Jr. Team practice and then dinner at Talons with Hugh, Maureen, Kathy and Penny. I came after work, always an enjoyable time.
Thursday visited Ian, played video games.
Friday golf lesson, then off to the Collins.

NFJG Dr. Ira Classic Golf Tournament - Tied for Second Place!

Hyde Park Golf Club, June 12th and 13th, 2019: Second Place!

From Jack's Newsletter: With severe weather approaching from the west the field of 67 players hit the links with the vision in mind of becoming the 27th Dr. Gordon Ira Golf Classic Overall Champion. This two-day Web.com Junior Players Tour event is the only event on tour where all 18-hole competitors get to compete for the overall championship. All boys and girls ages 10-18 are eligible to seize the cup in this one. In all other events it’s boys and girls 13-18.

What an honor during round one as Billy Maxwell owner and PGA Member of Hyde Park Golf Club made an appearance for the event and luckily for us it was during a one-hour rain delay, so everyone had a chance to meet him. Billy Maxwell, a seven-time champion on the PGA TOUR stood Texas tall for a photo with the newest member of the NFJG TOUR Hole-in-one club Wolfgang Weiler who had just ACED the par-3 6th hole.
In the Rising Tour Girls Palm Valley’s Hannah Oberkehr (84) would not only have her best round ever in round one, but she would best that score by four strokes shooting an ecstatic round of 80 to top the leader-board with an eight stroke victory over Alyzabeth Morgan and Shanya Arusa. In a scorecard playoff, Arusa would edge out Morgan.

OPE 6th Grade Promotion! June 5th

AA wore a new dress that was very nice, a bit "grown-up". So many sweet memories as the video, photos, speeches, awards made it feel like a High School Graduation. These kids have been together since kindergarten and some in the same VPK Wonder Works (OPUMC) classes.
Mrs. Jana Kinder wrote this on Facebook: ......transition is Owen’s move from elementary to the junior high program (that his sister Gillian is leaving). Orange Park Elementary has been so good to my very bright and exceedingly quirky child. The teachers have helped him develop both academically and personally while allowing for his unique personality. Just as important, over the years he has found his tribe- “the squad” of kids who accept and encourage each other even when they bicker. I am saddened that they are not all going to be together in the next few years, but we will do our best to make sure that they are able to maintain that special bond. Many thanks and much love to the parents and teachers who have been our village.
So much joy seeing AA succeed and now be promoting to the advanced placement program at OPJH.

This all means, is about the special friends and parents we have met during the seven OPE years. How will we keep these kids in touch; will probably get lost in the new Junior High activities, they are going to four or five different schools. We will try!
