Monday, October 30th: Forgot my purse at Leaa’s yesterday, so met her at CR207 to get it back. We then visited with LB at 10:10 until 11:40. He was alert but definitely slower to speak and said he was overwhelmed. We spoke with nurse KT and Administrator about process for staying. Larry is not close enough to “end of life” so cannot stay at that hospice facility. They are searching for a suitable nursing home and in the meantime, he paid for a week at a time ($2275 for 7 days). This is not a long-term care facility. He will be moved if he continues to be able to swallow pills, drink and eat food (very little at this point).
We talk sports, Jaguar football, World Series baseball (neither of us are really interested in the Arizona and Texas teams).
We called Jacksonville Memory Gardens where he will be buried next to Charlotte, we have a Wednesday morning appointment.
We went to Firehouse Subs for lunch then picked up AA as usual.
Walmart, prescription, juice boxes and grocery for dinner.
I made a new taco recipe from Girl Meets Farm (Molly Yeh). It was good but nothing exceptional.
We loaded up the donated dog food in the car:
Tuesday: Our day began with me doing work, taking Ford to PT and I walked chatting with Mom. We then went to Larry's home to get his checkbook, find his resume and look for photos. while there Larry called us saying the Hospice place was checking him out, to take him home. We drove there and was able to straighten out the communication gaps, that Larry has paid for this week. However, he cannot stay as the facility is not licensed for long term care. Currently they are looking at Pruitt on Fleming Island, waiting for the word that he will be transferred. We spoke to Laurel and Bob and after saying they would fly down, I guess Larry told them not to.
We had a quick lunch at Sonny's, picked up AA and went home. We finished laundry (Donna came today), prepared for our bruschetta dinner, then off to the River House. Beautiful day on the deck, just perfect! Since we ate food Michelle brought, I fixed AA some sloppy joe; we will have the bruschetta tomorrow night.
We put candy out for Trick or Treaters, must have had some takers as the Hershey chocolate bars were half gone.
Wednesday: Ford and I went to the Jacksonville Memory Gardens to make arrangements for Larry's funeral. All went well, everything taken care of except things they wait until the death.
We then went to Bank of America and started the process for Power of Attorney.
After school, AA went to PT and I walked chatting with Chris Brown and then my Mom. We had bruschetta for dinner.
Thursday: Larry called me at 2:00 a.m. asking for help to get additional pain relief. He did say he got some but needed me to help at 4:00 a.m. - so I did call the Hospice and was best for me to discuss his options during the day shift. After Ford went to his Parkinson's exercises; I drove he and Nancy, then I went to Bank of America to finish the Power of Attorney - adding my name to Larry's accounts.
A quick trip to Walmart for Ford's prescriptions. We visited with Larry at 11:00 and a second time at 4:45 p.m. Both times he had just received additional pain drugs so was not awake; he was breathing steady but loudly. We spoke with the RN and all is settled that he will stay there as he now has transitioned to end of life care. We stopped at his home to pick put burial clothes, not much in his closet. We looked for photos of Larry - no luck), gave Butters some attention, removed the box of jewelry for niece Katie and the cash he had on hand ($773 - $160 for lawn service). I also paid Larry's bills: taxes on both his properties.
After school, AA drove to the Safe Animal Shelter, dropped off donated bags of dog food - total 236 lbs. Thank you to family and friends who donated!
From Facebook: Safe Animal Shelter Thank you so much Alyzabeth for all the donations we greatly appreciate it!!
Friday: I had to cancel again to shop at BJ's with Carolyn.
Ford and I went to GCS, then to Kohl's - we purchased a white shirt, undies, tie and belt for LB to be buried in. Then we drove to Haven Hospice to collect Larry's belongings, and to the Funeral Home for a 11:30 a.m. meeting. We finished signing the contract, ordered flowers and the death certificates. After picking up AA from school, we went to Michael's for toys (Ian's party) and I bought lunch for Ford and I while AA only had a Macha tea boba.
We purchased a white shirt, undies, tie and belt for LB to be buried in.
Saturday: I went to Walmart early to buy hotdogs and buns for Ian's EPIC party. AA and I helped set up for Ian's EPIC Birthday party at 2:30 with hotdog cooker, juice boxes and M&M's. Everything was ready at 5:30 p.m. - very chaotic but all got done! Food was plentiful (pasta, hotdogs, meatballs and sauce, plus salad and fruit).
Separate post on the EPIC party.
Sunday: Slow morning, I went to church. I wrote the eulogy for Larry's funeral. We decided visit with Butters and have a very late lunch at the Corner Pocket in Green Cove Springs. We have read many good reviews how it has gone from a smoking bar to a nice pool hall with good food. The food was good, we will go back again. My mashed potato bowl was interesting, good, just didn't care for the canned corn on top and way too much chicken gravy (maybe get it on the side if I ever order it again).

The Webster's finished adding the family names to Larry's obituary.
