We were very happy for Tyler Mawhinney winning the Elite Boys in a tough competition and play-off. Also, Cambree Hodge for her first NFJG win in the Rising Girls (she's on the FIHS Girls Golf Team) and two other Eagle Harbor players, Chase Ricks with a decent two-day +14 and Sophia Moody for 2nd Place in the Foundation group.
Next tournament is tomorrow at San Jose in Jacksonville.Jack's Newsletter: One of the many remarkable things about our great tour is that the staff and spectators get to watch all these juniors mature and grow year after year. This week we’re watching some history in the making as Fleming Island’s Tyler Mawhinney extended his win streak to five tournaments in a row in the ELITE TOUR Boys Division. The fourteen-year-old pounded out a six under par score of 138 shooting 69-69 to win the Overall title.
Mawhinney’s task wouldn’t be an easy one as he had to endure the back-and-forth battle with Ponte Vedra’s Cameron Reed who also shot 69-69 to tie for the overall lead at the top. The two players would extend their day with a sudden death playoff where Mawhinney would be the victor. With the win, Mawhinney would be the chosen one to represent the NFJGTOUR and Foundation in the 2022 AJGA “Junior PLAYERS Championship” being played at TPC Sawgrass come September with the nation’s finest players and Mawhinney is considered one of those players. Both Mawhinney and Reed would capture nine birdies within their 36-hole challenge.
Our GIRLS Divisions had a great field of 24 and Fernandina’s Madelyn Campbell came out firing posting an opening round of even par 72 to take a three-shot lead over Lake Cities Veona Osborne (75). Campbell would never look back in round two extending her lead to four to win the title as the “North Florida Junior Amateur” Champion. Fleming Island’s Alyzabeth Morgan made a run and a few more putts in round two carding a nice round of 75 and would nip Osborne in a scorecard playoff for the runner-up award.
Fleming Island’s Cambree Hodge would become a first-time winner on the NFJGTOUR as she would capture the RISING TOUR GIRLS title with scores of 81-78. A birdie at the last hole of play would seal the deal edging out Ponte Vedra’s Stella Moritz (77-84) by two strokes.
