Round 2: Your Group for Round 2 (Tue Jun 21) #1  A. Morgan, M. Singson, L. Milbrandt.
The young lady who won: My name is Mafy, I’m an 18 year old Golfer from Davao City, Philippines and I am currently on the Philippine National Team. I compete in local and international tournaments.
Director Jack's News: With the winds blowing out of the east, northeast at 10-12 mph it made for a little challenge on the opening day. The tees, except for one or two were tipped with the course playing just shy of 6800 yards. Hey, it is the “Summer Series” and if you have been on tour long enough you know that courses will be set up a little longer for some keener competition as we winddown to the end of the 2021-2022 season.
Thirteen-year-old Tyler Mawhinney from Fleming Island, Florida did not have any troubles navigating the course. He opened round one with a nice score of two under par 69 to take home a two-stroke lead over Jacksonville’s John Minotas.
The Girls 13-18 division had a nice field of 28 players. Maria Rafaela Singson from St. Johns, Florida took the top honors by firing rounds of 79-71. Fourteen pars and two birdies in round two would help her create space between her and the field and she would go on to win by eight strokes over Player of the Year points leader Alyzabeth Morgan. Morgan and Jacksonville’s Addy Vogt would tie for the runner-up spot. Morgan would win in a scorecard playoff.
News from First Place Winner:
Mafy Singson bucked tough conditions and gutted out a 71 to dominate the Jax Beach Junior Open, beating Alyzabeth Morgan by eight at the Jax Beach Golf Club in Jacksonville, Florida Tuesday.
Singson broke away from a three-way tie after the first round with a gutsy one-birdie, one-bogey card at the front of the challenging par-71 layout then held sway with the same output at the back to top the 36-hole tournament with a 149 worth 1,600 points in the Global Junior Rankings.
The ICTSI-backed shotmaker, coming off a victory in the local pro circuit at Splendido last month, shared the lead with Morgan and Lexi Milbrant with 78s as the course played to an average of 82.70 in the first round.
But Morgan and Milbrandt succumbed to the test in the final round with the former failing to recover from a horrible five-bogey skid from No. 1 on her way to a 79 and the latter blowing it all on a ghastly backside foldup of 45 marred by two double bogeys and a closing triple-bogey for an 84.
Morgan settled for second with a 157 while Milbrant ended up fifth at 162 behind Addy Vogt, who carded a 77 for a 157, and Veona Osborne, who pooled a 160 after a 78.
