We missed the Copperhead Classic Regional in January (eye surgery), so the Jekyll Island Regional is the beginning of the training for the World's. We drove up Friday for a practice round; and met up with local Jax friends Alexa Fallis and Amelia Cobb so the girls had fun together. We also had a breeze so the bugs were very mild this year! Usually we are eaten alive by the no-see-ums!
AA did fine on her first round, about her average even though she was shooting in the high 30's. A 41 placed her tied for 6th after all 18 girls had finished. She played with Greta Gobezie (OH) and Mary Miller (GA - she was the winner at the DCP Regional and is going to the Masters). We also found Coach Kathy Nyman's Rain Girl jackets on sale at the Pro shop.
For lunch we headed to a BBQ spot that Ford wanted to try - over on St. Simon Island, Southern BBQ. It was PACKED/Crowded! Great food!
There was an arts festival on the Jekyll Island Hotel grounds, we enjoyed walking around the outside exhibits, inside show and listening to live music. The inside exhibits had a ballot where (for free) you selected your favorite piece and supposedly, a small prize went to the winner of the crowd/popular vote.
Lots of old oak trees to climb on:
Our repeat visit to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center. Always a good time going through the exercise to find out how long we lived as a turtle. Ford only made it to a hatchling but AA reached adulthood.
We saw many more cold stunned turtles from the Cape Cod area than in the past. They must have had over a dozen in from the last month.
We ate diner in the Pub Friday evening and was reacquainted with the Thomas family (son, Weymon, placed second!). Saturday evening, we ate leftover BBQ! Ready for Day 2!
