Valentine's Day - Homemade Ginger Hearts

AA's school class is having sugar cookies on Valentine's Day. I thought a slightly different cookie would be good for a change. I used a gingerbread man recipe. We love spice cake and this recipe has cinnamon, ginger, cloves and allspice in it. It smelled yummy while mixing and cooking. Of course, AA helped!

These are baked and cooling; I tend to use too much flour when rolling out dough (makes it more fun for AA!), if you could see my kitchen counters and floor when we were done! Thankfully, after baking, the excess flour can be gently wiped off.

We did a simple decoration: white almond flavored icing and red sprinkles:

One other thing, I didn't pay any attention to the recipe (AA keeps my eyes focused on the fun) so forgot to lightly grease the cookie sheet - I thought a non-stick pan would work - wrong!

Here's the recipe; you could use any gingerbread man type recipe and use the heart cookie cutter shape. Since I made slightly over-sized heart cookies and not BIG" gingerkids, I shortened the baking time to 13 minutes.

Hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day!
