Apple Pie

Apple pie is one of my favorite pies. This past Thanksgiving dinner, I baked the homemade double crust and used apples from Maine. Love them!!

The recipe from my Mom's Betty Crocker cookbook (1955).

The crust is the most time consuming! I have tried pie crust recipes that call for vinegar or an egg or various combination's of butter, oil and shortening; I have stuck to the one I think is the flakiest using Crisco solid shortening.

Friend Charlotte gave me the apple peeler. MIL Joy did all the work peeling and cutting up the apples while I made the crust. I also use my Mom's old pyrex bowl set for all my baking (wonder how I got so many things out of my childhood home???).

I love baking an apple pie. With our recent trip to Maine, apples are so fresh and tasty in the fall. Yummy! I had a piece for breakfast the next day!

For Christmas dinner, what is your favorite pie?

Mmmm...that looks super yummy Alyson!!

The pie plate is wonderful. The bowls and recipe book made me smile. I can still picture the recipe book and bowls I used as a child when mom and I baked.

What fun that you're able to begin these new traditions with AA!

Yummmmm! I love apple pie. My MIL has a french apple that I've stuck to making for years now! Can only be eaten warm a la mode.

Have a great weekend.

There is NOTHING like homemade apple pie! My mom has the same Betty Crocker cookbook....does your have a "Fly Off the Plate" pancake recipe in it?

I was wondering though, apple pie, cupcakes......Aly, how EVER do you keep your FABULOUS figure with all the good eats you guys always have around (I have not forgotten about the lobster, either!)?

Oh yes! Christmas and apple pie go hand in hand, don't they!?!
Make one every year. I make a top crust of brown sugar, butter, pecans, and oats. Yummy!
I know what my New Year's Resolution will be:)

That looks delicious. I love apple pie, but am allergic to apples, sigh.
I think my favorite kind of pie is any pie that has a flaky crust, because that is my favorite part of the pie!
