Monday: My first official day of retirement it’s April 1 also April Fools’ Day. We got Alyzabeth off to school OK with her lunch. We had blueberry buckle fruit leftover from Easter, brunch and sausage balls for her breakfast. We started the laundry I stripped both beds had three loads of wash to do during the day. I also spent eight hours at Larry‘s house, putting things out on the curb for free pick up and also put out several trash bags for trash pick-up on Wednesday morning. Almost all was gone before trash pick-up. I did help an 89-year-old put the wheelchair, shower seat in her car.
I also walked the dog, put away dishes. Ford went to the Clay County vehicle registration and got a duplicate registration for the green Subaru and then went to Publix. grocery shopping.
I made panzanella for dinner, really love this - always remember to bake/roast whole garlic ahead of time so will be soft enough by dinner time.
Tuesday: We both slept well, just not enough! After AA was off to school, I did more laundry, picked up before Donna arrived and out the door at 9 am. While Ford was at PT, I walked 30 minutes while chatting with Mom. Another hot day at 84 degrees. We drove to GCS to sign for our taxes and for Larry’s. Ford wanted the fried chicken special at The Corner Pocket, so that was lunch. He doesn’t care for their cole slaw and I’m not too crazy about the place, it’s okay.
We then drove to Larry’s as I told Ford about curbside stuff and that I found a lazy Suzanne we might like to keep. Once at Larry’s house, Chris Brown stopped in. I gave him a folder of original papers from the lot he inherited, some photos, a framed picture of Puck, a glass decanter, some glasses with a K initial.
We then went home, missed Donna, she already left. AA came home after attending her NHS meeting. I put together a charcuterie board for the RH - all leftovers from neighbor Nancy from her Easter food. We had it for dinner along with a chop salad kit.
Wednesday: Ford and I both slept pretty good over the night which is one way we gauge how our day is going to go so we are always glad that we have a good night sleep. Usual routine with Alyzabeth having breakfast and lunch made for her school and I spend the first hour reading emails, working on the blog, just tidying up, having a little breakfast, drinking my coffee, etc. This morning, I prepared the Boston butt pork roast in the crockpot, so we can have pork tacos for dinner tonight, and pickled the red onions. By that time, I got dressed and drove to Larry’s. I finished cleaning Larry's master bedroom completely, so there is nothing left there except what I’m leaving for the new owners.
I worked a little bit on the middle bedroom and the warehouse room. I decided to text Sharon Patterson to see how she’s doing and to see if she wanted to get together. She said she had the day off from her estate sales job and drove to Larry‘s house. She went through the house and we boxed up many knickknacks, a wooded shelf, printer rolling table, lots of things for her booth at the antique store. We were actually pretty dirty and it was pouring rain and got wet. Hopefully I will get to see her again in the future as there are a few items left that if I decide to leave for the Owners, she may want to come back and get them. By 12:30, and I drove home and had a quick lunch with Ford; Ford had eaten one outlaw chicken salad slider and decided he had an upset stomach. Alyzabeth had early dismissal today and got her new parking pass for the green Subaru. She did homework and studied for a make-up history test. We enjoyed pork tacos for dinner.
I contacted the "junk" haulers and they will move the refrigerator and boxes to our house later in the month.
Thursday, the 4th: Today is the one-year anniversary of Ian Bailey's death - the family and OPE math teacher Chris Harris asked friends to do something kind in honor of Ian or any other loved one that you have lost. If you do, please post and use the hashtag. #showingkindnessinhonorofEE.
We went to Walmart, UPS Store, Publix, Michael's, Kingsley Jeweler and River House and didn't think of any act of kindness! We did give flowers to Sandy and Penny and art supplies to Catherine - so did three kindness (generous tipping at the RH probably doesn't count). So many missed opportunities, will need to think this through better so can become a natural/spontaneous act instead of pre-planning.
Morning began with the usual morning breakfast for Alyzabeth and Ford fixed soup, cherry tomatoes, crackers and macaroni and cheese for her lunch. I did about an hour's worth of goofy time on the computer, which is reading my email and working on our blog. I drove Ford to his Parkinson exercises; then went to the UPS store to mail my APTIM laptop back to them, then to Walmart to pick up a prescription and tulips. then to Michael’s to pick up some art supplies for Catherine Musselwhite (act of kindness) - and then to then back to the Catholic Church to pick up Ford. I called Mom (she's sick, did not answer) while I walked about 1000 steps. I took the Walmart tulips to the Parkinson exercises actually for Lita Lumalu Hummer, but she wasn’t there so I gave them to Sandy May for just as a little act of kindness and for all she does for the Parkinson group.
Once Ford and I were back on the road, went to Arnold lawyer to drop off death certificates for Larry and Charlotte - for the title policy on the Sheldon Road home. It was a bit too early for lunch, so grabbed a lemonade and cappuccino at the Spring Park coffee store, and relaxed, sitting, read emails, talking and looking for Nissan pickup trucks for Justin.
Off to Chef X for lunch - we had been wanting to go back there one more time to try it since meeting up with Kenny and Pam Davis a month ago. Ford had the cheeseburger with fries, and I had the chicken Caesar salad, grilled chicken that was very good. Lots of croutons, a few cherry tomatoes, and plenty of chicken. I brought half of it home, so I hope Alyzabeth likes it. We then went to Publix, bought flowers tulips for Penny and a few other items; I ran into Jean Clark, she has some medical issues, Aiden is doing fine at FIHS. Tim Martin also breezed by with a wave.
Took Ford home then I went to Penny‘s and visited with her and dropped off the two art supply paints/chalks in a bag with Catherine‘s name on it at her doorstop as a little surprise (Donna said Catherine likes art supplies and didn’t get the free cycle ones from Larry’s house). I visited with Penny for over an hour. We talked about her best friend from Iowa that was her RA College, her husband just passed away only knew he had cancer for about 2 1/2 weeks and couldn’t really get good diagnostics or any treatment plan going at UF Gainesville, was life flighted back to Iowa (with two daughters). Penny just said over the past couple weeks after losing some family members and her sister in Ormond Beach is settling in but is a recent widow too, talked about getting our affairs in order. We talked about where Alyzabeth was going to college and of course we both love Stetson but I will steer her direction to public colleges in Florida. We talked about Donna Musselwhite and Catherine, they like the pool and Penny was able to get their pool key since Penny is now the head of the pool committee. Had good chats about everything including orthopedic surgeons, physical therapy and that maybe Alyzabeth should do better going to Southeast orthopedic so I will try that.
Catherine's mom, Donna, thanked me for the art supplies.
After Alyzabeth came home and I returned from visiting with Penny, we chatted for a while about her homework. She needed to study for Spanish with Laureen tonight and she has a psychology quiz also.
I talked Ford into running a few more errands; we dropped off dry cleaning and went to Kingsley Jewelry store to have Alyzabeth's class ring stone secured as it was loose (at jewelry store, he "burnished" the setting but doesn't want to make it too tight as the metal will expand/contract and he reminded me that the ring has a lifetime warranty). We dropped by the River House, chatted with Michelle about Ian‘s anniversary, hugs, we are just having a drink to think about that and she mentioned that her father-in-law is a Morgan who also came to North Carolina so she may dredge up a few of his ancestor names.
We came home and had leftover pork tacos. Always delicious. Alyzabeth, Ford and I hung out in the living room while Alyzabeth did her Wordle and her daily NY Times word puzzles. Alyzabeth took the free SAT test at the high school and said she didn’t know how well she did and took a make up her history test after school which she scored an 82. She is now driving Larry's green Subaru to school as she got her new parking pass yesterday.
Friday: Usual quiet morning, AA off to school, psychology quizzes (3 - she scored all 100's). See separate post on the rest of the day.
Saturday: We relaxed for an hour then off to Gainesville. We decided to self-tour to the Pugh Building - Bob Graham Center/International studies and Spanish/Language Studies. AA drove us the entire way, we found a parking spot right in front of the building (off Stadium St. on Fletcher Dr.).
We enjoyed our lunch at Satchel's - the Satchel's salad is to die for - apple, greens, carrots, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, sliced almonds, walnuts, red onion, Romano cheese and house made vinaigrette. The small is a share bowl, serves 2 - 3 (if you want side salad servings, will feed 4 -5 people). YUM! AA ate her usual calzone, Ford and I split a medium Major pizza (added spinach, half olives).
Back home, AA met Siyan at Starbucks, Siyan doesn't get the family car very often so they met up - both did not go to prom.
I washed the black Subaru - I think a flock of poopy birds decided to poop all over it - it needed an immediate wash!
Sunday: I went to Fresh Market at opening time, 8:00 a.m., mainly as they were offering eclipse glasses so wanted to make sure I got a pair for AA. Bought a few convenience foods, even though a bit overpriced, I got the chicken pot pie for one of our dinners. I also made it to church at 9:30, the Sunday after Easter seemed a bit under-attended, but who am I to say anything, as I skipped Easter services!
Back home, we all had a snack to tide us over until we headed to the OP Mall to try a new food court restaurant, Two Sisters. It was very good, huge Cuban sandwich, very nice salmon BLT; and my fried green tomatoes were good too.
