Memorial Day - Week of June 1st!

Monday: Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. It’s not to be confused with Veterans Day, which celebrates the service of U.S. military veterans, or with Armed Forces Day, which honors men and women currently in service. Memorial Day began a few years after the Civil War, in 1868. An organization of Union veterans established the holiday, then known as Decoration Day, as a time to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers. From then until the present day, the solemn holiday has been formally observed at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
We drove to Betty and Fount's graves. We need to go back with American flags and lots of mulch to spruce up. We were surprised to see David's grave from 2016. We did not realize it had been that long since we "visited" them.

Hugh and Maureen invited us with Kathy to their condo for happy hour and hotdog dinner. We had good conversation and enjoyed being with them. We did not go to the Green Cove Springs Festival and fireworks afterward.
Tuesday: After drinking three glasses of Hugh's very nice red California Cabernet wine, I felt great the next day, so unusual. I usually feel like I drank too much, sleepy and sluggish! Not sure what was in the wine, wish I did! I went into work, usual time (arriving about 7:15 a.m.) and worked all day. Ford made Bruschetta, our standard meatless, light meal.
Wednesday: I was ambitious and made the clafoutis again for breakfast, with home grown blueberries (thanks to the two bushes AA gave me) and with raspberries for breakfast.
After working and AA doing some pre-high school program (on-line videos), we went to lunch at a restaurant we had never been to, Lola's Burrito and Burger. I called and they had outside seating. We really enjoyed eating "out" and the staff all had on masks. Smoked, cheese street corn - delicious (cut off the cob ourselves)! Ford had the Cajun burger, he liked it; AA had a HUGE taco salad, also very good. I enjoyed the spicy shrimp tacos, not really spicy; good with the $0.67 extra for salsa.
Thursday: Picked up Larry Bradley from his "rehab" Life Care at Wells Crossing center and took him home. We wish him a recovery and also, remission too!
Mia, Madison and Michael arrived at 3:00 p.m. (MA graduated this year!). And this was AA's last day of 8th grade (I'll rant about that on a separate post!).
Took a group photo on the golf cart, when they all hopped on to take AA to her golf lesson:
Driving to the golf course:
They arrived at their hotel. La Fiesta; took a windy walk on the beach:
For dinner, we had my delicious pork tacos (radishes, avocado, pickled red onions, etc.) and celebration ice cream dessert - Last day of 8th grade!
Homemade Banana Splits (missing chopped nuts and the maraschino cherry on top!!):
AA's bowl from Nana Ann of the North (an ice cream lover herself):
Friday: We were going to visit with Mia and kids but Bobby arrived from Maine mid-afternoon. He purchased the 1987 Harley Davidson back from us. I feel like we had it on loan for five years!
On it's way to Tampa, then back to Maine.
Saturday: We met up with Mia and M.A. while Madison was at the Flagler Basketball camp. We ate at A1A Ale House, which was pretty good. The waitstaff was attentive and was not very long wait for the food (crab cakes, steak, fried shrimp, etc.). Ford said his wahoo fish sandwich was dry. It was so nice catch up with Mia (news about Mike's new job, Lester's health, MA's basketball plans, etc.).
We drove back home from St. Augustine to pick up the pineapple cream cheese balls for happy hour appetizer at the River House (4:00 p.m. early, to avoid a large party - Principal of the Year was local from GCS Jr. High). AA's principal was there, Justin Faulkner and he is transferred to GCS Jr. High.
We streamed Dylan's dance recital, it was a great way to watch her since we are still staying away from large gatherings indoors (our local counties are not at 50% vaccinated yet).
Finale:
Leaa sent this photo from Sunday, beautiful granddaughters:
Saturday night, we watched the movie Persuasion (Jane Austen) - AA is reading the book.
Sunday: We went to Barnes and Noble to buy workbooks for AA this summer - Algebra II and Biology.
I made Joy's Chocolate sheet cake for Hugh (taking Monday to the River House) while AA was golfing. Pork tacos for dinner - we had a busy weekend!
Licking the bowl!
Washing dishes:
The baked cake - added mini-chocolate chips to the frosting.
A good week!
