Every summer, we have kept AA busy for about 30 - 45 minutes a day (on average) doing some kinds of school work in the summer. We use the Summer Bridge books; the book contains a daily review of the prior grade and have some material to get ready for the rising grade.
I put a post on Facebook about AA choosing to learn Algebra over the summer rather than doing something crazy like highlights in her hair, but got so many comments that were not intended, so removed the post.
Here's a few of the good ones to save:
Laurie McDonald Maybe math IS her style!
Lyndon Johnson Jr. Wow! I don't believe I ever had a problem with my kids wanting to trade like that. Great.
Marsha Cruce I like her style! Maybe a program like mathnasium would be fun for her.
Chris Clarke Pick up the book...Math Magic by Scott Flansburg. She will enjoy it.
Valerie Haley Hytner I think she is lovely just as she is, and all these perceptions of style and beauty are so temporary and silly in the long run, the fact that she is not influenced by trends is the "style" of a leader and someone to emulate and not made to conform. She is very special and you had a hand in bringing that out in her.
Lynn Debreczen AA, you just keep being YOU. Trends come and go; math lasts!
Sallie Lewis Fulmer I kinda love her style. Her hair is so pretty and shinny, her clothes are always super cute, and fit her comfortably. Her style is “honor student athlete” ❤️
Athena Tsengas Mann Smart girl!!! Let her do her algebra!!!! ❤️
Steve Hayes Looks like math won out.....!’
Kathy Redmond Scalesse Be careful of what you wish for. Age 13 is just around the corner. She’s already got her style and she’s asserting it! You go, AA. I love you just the way you are.
Davie Curewitz Our little one loves Math too... however I don't foresee her wanting to give up valuable Minecraft/RoBlox time in order to learn it during the summer.
Bud Para AA’s style IS math. Worked for me.
Kathy Crisman My Emma is the same way. She wants to learn algebra so bad. She loves school so much, that I sign her up to take courses at school for the month of July.
Janice Gray Martin I love that you are encouraging her to think outside of her comfort zone. Don't stop but also don't get impatient, in her own tine and place she will find her style. Her friends will also influence her, good and bad.
Lauren Dunkle Dancey I love it! Make sure she sees the movie “Hidden Figures.”
Jody Pascual Tell her to style her hair that represents a mathematics formula.
Ford Alyson Cobb Morgan Thank you all, AA is true to herself. A bit superficial talking about her style, just was having conversation about fun this summer break as her school doesn’t allowed hair dyed “un-natural” colors during school year. Algebra will be on her daily schedule now!
