Don't Leave Old Friend...
I've missed you.
It has taken a while but I finally came to my senses and realized that you don't come out in the mornings any longer. You must be staying behind with your best friend Pooh Bear in the Hundred Acre Woods, otherwise known as Alyzabeth's bed. I've also noticed that a certain someone's blanket and pillow remain behind as well. I'm not sure just how I feel about all of this. I always thought I was one to embrace change but this change feels empty, bittersweet.
Lying in your bed in the mornings was our time to explore the Woods together along with Elmo and Pooh Bear. We would collect honey and swat the bees away. We laughed as you climbed a tree to get Elmo down. He was always good at climbing up but never so good at climbing down. Pooh was always the listener as you told about the dream you had that night and if it was in color! I would name all the animals that came to the door to pick Mom up for work that morning. Who was driving. Horse swishing his tail in Lions face while Monkey tormented Elephant stealing his peanuts and chucking the shells out the back window. Duck always blaring "are we there yet?!?!"
Blanket and pillow always the quiet, trusted ones, tightly held under an arm or resting on a cheek.
Don't leave old friend. Don't leave old friends. You bring comfort. To Alyzabeth. And to me...
peace

I'm sending you a hug. That's a big step your little girl is taking. My 10 yr old hasn't taken it yet and I don't think Rosie ever will.
Funny how some steps to independence cut deeper than others huh?
Wow! I can't imagine Sophie leaving her blankie behind. They are growning up so fast....
Oh no! Watching her grow up is so bittersweet sometimes. Keep Elmo somewhere safe where she can visit him when she gets older and nostalgic. (Hug).
Such big changes and I've come to realize that often these changes are much harder on us than they are on our little ones. ((hugs))
