A recent Yankee Magazine listed their favorite lobster roll spots that included an ocean view. Reminds me of missing home! We just love lobster rolls so am dreaming of a chance to go home, visit family and indulge in our favorite food! We have posted several times of our lobster dinners mostly provided by my Mom!
Here are the ten best lobster shacks as selected by Travel + Leisure: Our favorite is Red's Eats as they use melted butter, no mayo.
Our closest lobster shack that we frequent when home is close to Freeport and L.L. Bean - the Harraseeket Shack. It has a great view right at the working Town Wharf. The one we go to for the BEST ocean view and has been a family favorite stomping ground for years (I am talking years.... before me!) is the Two Lights Lobster Shack, love that you can walk/climb on the rocky coast; it is close to the famous Portland Headlight, first lit in 1791.
To make a lobster roll (this is for four), grill/toast the hotdog buns with butter, cook the lobsters your favorite way (steamed) and pick the meat into rough/odd chunks. Mix with the mayo/butter and your seasonings. Yummy!
Four 1 1/4-pound (1.25) lobsters
1/4 cup mayonnaise or melted butter (your choice)
Maine Sea Salt and fresh ground pepper
1/4 cup diced celery (optional); 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
For a little flavor, not too much: either a dash of paprika or cayenne pepper
4 hot dog buns, 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup of any fresh leaf lettuce

Dreaming of Lobster Rolls

It's not even time for breakfast yet and I am drooling. I can't wait to head up to head back up to Me this summer for another fix.
We used to have cook-outs in the summer where Dad cooked lobster and clams on coals with seaweed. Got violently sick at about age 11 after having some lobster-had never happened before, and no one else got sick-and ever since I can't touch it or any shellfish.
However, I didn't want to be one of those moms whose kids wouldn't try something their spouse liked just because they never had it at home, so ALL of our kids ate seafood and shellfish (my husband won't even eat fish) and all three of the big ones love the stuff. Probably their favorite shack was at the end of a pier in St. Andrews, New Brunswick.
Aidan, unfortunately, also loved it all but became very ill after eating some shrimp with his sister, so he probably won't go there again either.

Oh, Lord, now you've done it. I just have to go have one in honor of you. Will let you know which place I chose. Your Mom :)
I miss lobster rolls too!! Though I can get the lobster and make the "filling" I can't get the New England split top hot dog rolls and for some reason other hot dog rolls just don't work and taste right for me ;-(
