Sunday Activities

After church, AA was in a musical mood; we played music in a marching band (DH played flute as instructed by AA) and then picked some oranges and lemons. The day was warm but blustery so we were in and out as the sun called to us.

AA had a hard time snapping the orange off the tree/stem. With a little help, she filled her basket.

Finished for today!

So many left to pick!

Here's our ponderosa lemon tree that was the only tree that was damaged by our record 12 day night freezes. I researched on line and found out it is one of the least cold hardy citrus fruits; wish I had known that earlier. We have had this tree for about ten years and only minor frost damage occurred in the past so didn't think it was any different than our other trees. We shall watch it this spring to see if it recovers.

Back to the house with our citrus bounty...... soon made into juice and orange sections for snacking!

Have a wonderful week!

Citrus right in the back yard! Reminds me that I have got to get busy and plant some blueberry bushes this year. It's just more enjoyable when comes from outside your back door.

We had that music set! It was a fav until the kids figured out that the drum sticks were effective weapons and started bonking one another on the head! Hee hee

Sweet pics with the basket of oranges. I envy you for having all that yummy fruit right in your own back yard! Three years ago, I planted an orange, apple and nectarine tree and they're all barely alive and not producing any fruit. I think our soil isn't good enough. Darn.

Ahh....thanks for that little glimmer of spring/summer hope. How lucky to have these great trees right in your yard. AA looks adorable wiht her basket - like little red riding hood.

Hope your lemon tree survives.

Picking food is such a primal, connecting wonderful joy. Especially with this beautiful collector.

Love the marching band, but you are missing pictures of the flute player, lol!
I think it is wonderful that you can go to your own yard and pick oranges and lemons. I hope your trees survive this whacky winter.
