Week of September 19th - 25th

Monday: Separate post on the FIHS golf match and the Queen's funeral. I did drink some tea while watching.

Tuesday: AA's birthday - separate post.
Wednesday: Cleaned house, went to AA's home golf match, with Penny. Ordered a V's Pizza and salad for dinner. Changed the dining room table to a "fall" theme with two of AA's OPE art work.

Thursday: Joy arrived in the afternoon. Went to CC with Hugh and Kathy. Maureen had a long day at Mayo so was tired. Ford cooked salmon for dinner with cole slaw and baked beans.
Friday: Liv's play - Once Upon a Mattress was very good, very talented kids, singing and acting.

Saturday: Joy and I shopped at Kohl's and Dollar tree. AA had her golf lesson. Went to the River House with Joy, Hugh and Maureen (she is having mental health/memory issues and congestive heart failure). Kathy had a surgical procedure on her leg, and was not up for the social visit.

Sunday: Met up with Leaa and Jesse at the St. Augustine Amphitheater, separate post.

Happy 16th Birthday to Alyzabeth!

A quiet celebration for AA's 16th birthday. No party with family or friends. So much going on and with all ideas being shot down by AA, we had our family dinner and opening of gifts in the evening.

I took a couple of photos in the morning which she is not happy about. Breakfast - she spilled something on her shirt so changed tops:

Her big gift was unplanned, but it worked out this way - new golf clubs ordered after her club fitting at Sea Island ($2900+).

We have made a three week commitment to not eat SUGAR, but made an exception for some mint chocolate chip ice cream today.

Thank you to those who sent cards/gifts: Aunt Terri (a check $), Mom/Nana (a maze book, Amazon GC and a check $), Uncle Bill/Aunt Joan, Cathy and Werner (Visa GC $125.), Nicole (GC), Ms. Penny. Nana Joy brought her card for AA on Thursday. Noah Witt gave her a card at school (with a Target GC in it!). She received a card a week later from Aunt Patti (with $).

We gave her a few gifts to open, some silly, some practical. Love this daughter forever!

Monday FIHS Girls Golf Match 09/19/2022

FIHS Golf Match, Monday 09/19/22 - Day before AA's birthday!

Morgan gears up for district to state run by Randy Lefko Sports Editor. Fleming Island High’s girls golf team, led by sophomore Alyzabeth Morgan, finished off a tri-team match win over Keystone Heights and Middleburg with the Golden Eagles’ ace facing off with two potential state tournament candidates.
Morgan, who narrowly missed her state tournament bid last year, has been on fire for most of the 2022 season with a handful of sub-40 stroke matches under her belt.
On Monday, at Fleming Island Golf Club, Morgan had the company of Keystone Heights High senior Candace Jackson, sister to Class 1A tournament veteran Camille Jackson, and Middleburg High’s junior Neva Winslow, who has put together a solid season of finishes that gives Bronco coach Daniel Pearce optimism for her end-of-season potential.
Fleming Island won the tri-match with a decisive 176 to 232 score over Keystone Heights with Middleburg third at 245.
Morgan took an early lead on the trio with a final 39 with Jackson third at 43 behind Fleming Island sophomore Chloe Blanc who shot a 42. Winslow was two strokes off Jackson with a 45 for fourth with Fleming Island junior Kalia Polete fifth with a 46. Morgan efficiently stayed on par for the first seven holes to keep an early lead in tact, but bogied her eighth and ninth holes give her opposition a bit of optimism. Jackson fell behind with two early bogies, a par then a double bogie to allow Morgan to gap the field.

God Save the Queen - Rest in Peace

Her reign was long and served well the citizens with dignity and steadiness. Now, all will say, God Save the King - King Charles III.

The palace announced she died at Balmoral Castle, her summer residence in Scotland, where members of the royal family had rushed to her side after her health took a turn for the worse. A link to the almost-vanished generation that fought World War II, she was the only monarch most Britons have ever known.

Her 73-year-old son Prince Charles automatically becomes king, though the coronation might not take place for months.

Former President Jimmy Carter: "Rosalynn and I extend our condolences to the family of Queen Elizabeth II and the citizens of the United Kingdom. Her dignity, graciousness, and sense of duty have been an inspiration, and we join the millions around the world in mourning a remarkable leader."

Pope Francis: "I willingly join all who mourn her loss in praying for the late Queen’s eternal rest, and in paying tribute to her life of unstinting service to the good of the Nation and the Commonwealth, her example of devotion to duty, her steadfast witness of faith in Jesus Christ and her firm hope in his promises," said Francis, who added that he would pray for Charles as he took up his "high responsibilities as King."

The death of Queen Elizabeth II has set into motion an intricate period of mourning which will culminate with a huge state funeral on September 19 honoring her lifetime of devotion and steadfast service. Codenamed "Operation London Bridge," arrangements for Britain's longest-serving monarch have been carefully pored over for years by the many agencies involved, with the Queen herself signing off on every single detail before her death. 

On Monday morning, the King will start the day with a trip to Westminster Hall where both Houses of Parliament will express their condolences. He and his wife Camilla then fly to Edinburgh, arriving at 12:45 p.m. (7:45 a.m. ET), where they will head straight to the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

At 2:35 p.m. (9:35 a.m. ET), the Queen's coffin will proceed to St Giles' Cathedral for a service of prayer and reflection attended by the King and Queen Consort and royal family members, as well as a congregation made up "from all areas of Scottish society," according to a senior palace official. Afterward, the coffin will rest there for 24 hours to allow the Scottish public to see it, in a tradition known as lying in state.

On the morning of Monday, September 19 -- declared a public holiday across the UK -- the Queen's lying in state will end. The coffin will then travel in procession once more to Westminster Abbey for the state funeral.

Westminster Abbey, founded in 960 AD by Benedictine monks, is one of the most recognizable landmarks in London. The historic church has been the setting for every coronation since 1066, and was where the then-Princess Elizabeth married Prince Philip in 1947. But there hasn't been a funeral of a monarch there since that of George II in 1760.

Monday: I saw Dr. Curt Standish, bad news that I need an upper molar removed. With the old silver filling and now cracked, will have it taken out on Oct. 13th. Ford went to his Dr. Do appointment, nothing new with his health, but may be receiving a new prescription using a patch, waiting to see if the insurance will approve.

Friday: Forever Family Day P.F. Chang. We bought two shirts for Ford and a few books for AA. She is reading the Chinese Fables.

Sunday: A day of rest. Made biscuits and we went to Cultured Collective to watch some of the Jaguar game - they won! It was actually difficult to watch as several guys sat at a table but would stand up at the bar blocking part of the TV (especially the guy flipping his pony tail a hundred times in front of us!).
