Leading up to the "Worlds"! And EH PGA Jr. Destroyer Team MVP!

AA has been getting in long practice hours, getting ready for the WORLD's!!
Eagle Harbor lesson with Coach Bryan, then 16 more holes with Tyler, Lauren (UF Ladies Golf team) and Mr. Ted (this photo has Coach Bryan):

AA has continued to play every day before the afternoon showers, Coach Bryan is working with her to tune up all her club skills. She has worked very hard and improved incrementally, so this year's US Kids Worlds should be good!
Coach Bryan held the Eagle Harbor PGA Junior Team Awards Banquet on Saturday, July 28th.
We here happy AA won the MVP for her team, we are always surprised and humbled when she gets these extra awards, other adults see her skills, talent, demeanor and attitude that parents don't always see first hand. Such a compliment.
Four Eagle Harbor Team Names (Stars are those on the All Star Team):
Winning team - the Destroyers:
All-Star Team (two photos) with her usual practice partners Tyler Mawhinney, Ryan Houck:
Coach Bryan is AA's golf coach:
She received two medals: being on the winning team and medal for being placed on the All-Star Team and a plaque for being the Destroyers MVP!
Each child brings a dessert, so Ford made his famous banana pudding and it was the first dessert opened (by Ryan) and totally gone! Another great PGA Jr. Season wrapped up. Next up is the All-Star games!
We missed our usual River House meet-up, but did stop by the new Doctors Lake Tikki Bar where Alex (RH bartender) worked. It is an outdoor/open air bar with limited beverages (no red wine). We chatted a bit and then headed home.

NFJG Timuquana Winner Rising Girls! 07/23/18

We are so happy for AA, playing well in the Girls Rising 13 - 17 Division; she was the youngest in the tournament for all Girls.
AA said she played pretty well, putted well. She had no double bogeys except for a 6 on a Par 3 - she hit her drive into a tree branch, her chip failed to make the green, etc. Overall, a good game.
She impressed Coach Bryan, he told this story: she pulled a club to use - the shot was over water on the No. 11 hole, re-shot the distance, switched clubs, hit one chip, one putt for par. Impressed that she re-evaluated her situation, didn't gamble with her first impression. Photo: Ashley (3rd), Daisy (2nd) and AA:

Director Jack's Report:
Situated on the St. Johns River, Timuquana Country Club is most likely one of the prettiest views you will find of the river and city of Jacksonville. Arriving in the wee morning hours of darkness to prepare for the final NFJG TOUR Summer Tournament Series event the skyline was bright and well lite regardless of the cloud cover which tried to hide the cities beauty. As the sun yawned and stretched across the skies the spectacular view at day break down and across the river would start anyone’s day off right.
In the Rising Tour Girls – Alyzabeth Morgan would be back on TOUR and back at it again. This young talent must still have room in the trophy case for a few more medals and trophies and she is hard pressed to fill those voids and to make her imprint on the NFJG TOUR. Morgan fired a nicely done 82 to claim the Gold Medal. Morgan would birdie the opening hole and that would prove to be very valuable in the end in a very tough contest of back and forth between the top three players. Right behind Morgan would be fresh out of the Foundation Division Ms. Daisy Adams who was making an imprint of her own. Adams would post up a score of 83 for her low round on tour to take home the Silver Medal. Last week’s Junior Amateur Champion Ashley Huffman would round out the medalist stand with a solid round of 85 and the Bronze Medal.

On Facebook, Ford replied to a post by Shauwn Coultoff's Dad, Eric said about Rory trying to get some fun back in his game.
Ford Alyson Cobb Morgan fm - It's the #1 question always asked when it becomes known your kid plays golf. Do they have fun? Well, for us, the answer is sometimes yes and sometimes not so much. Practice isn't always fun. Then again, most kids don't jump for joy when the parent reminds them to practice the piano. Tournaments bring a certain amount of stress. Then again, so do soccer games and tests at school. It's a learning process in dealing with emotions. For Alyzabeth and her mom and I. Balancing is a never ending dance but it is one we always need reminding of. It's tough at their level. This age. I'm confident you're doing your best. Just like they are. Are they having fun? Most of the time. Is it hard work? Yes. Most things will be that they strive for. We've all witnessed the parent playing the game through their child. It's not a pretty sight. I don't think any of us forget the importance of having fun but it's not an easy journey... Keep it in the short grass and Go Low! :)
Really, team sports have team spirit, rally around the team members, encourage, keep up the energy. Who does the lone golfer have? And why do most people ask us if AA is having fun? Do they ask every boy on his junior high football team after every practice if he is having fun? We have not figured this over whelming desire for people to ask is she having fun?

Physics KIWI Kit from Nana Ann!

My Mom sent AA a project kit based on Physics from Kiwi Company. This one had projects relating to centrifugal force.
AA built a motor with several resistors to change the speed of the motor. This was used to spin paint with the centrifugal force, spinning art. She also made a centrifugal pump with a straw. A straw fountain that did pump water out the straw, flinging it every where in our kitchen. With this kit, you do have to provide some of the supplies, like the drinking straw, tape, ping pong ball, wine glass, etc.

Building the spinning box and motor to show the centrifugal force on the paint:
Making the straw fountain - pumping water with centrifugal force:
Directions, easy to follow:
Ping pong ball trick - pick up the ball inside the upside down wine glass. It worked once, have to get in a perfect rotations rhythm for it to work.
Great gift! Thank you to Nana of the North!

Catching up with a Few Photos!

We do jump in the pool occasionally; several reasons why our swim time has been limited this summer: my work schedule, afternoon thunder showers, AA's monthly (!) and just having too much sun/being too hot after she has golfed.
Latest photo of Ginger - two years old!

AA after a PGA Jr. Team practice, carrying her own golf bag - full size adult bag! She's on the EH All-Star Team, so a few more tournaments in August.
My newest new recipe - broccoli slaw, very good. A lot of chopping but worth it.
Friday, July 20th: Neighbor Nancy held a pizza celebration of her final cancer treatment - shes completed them! {Marsha and Carl came after I took the photo - we left to take Paul home}. We also went to the RH on Saturday, meeting up with regulars: Maureen and Hugh.
Pool time even though it was sprinkling!
Summer is going by fast! Next up - tomorrow, Monday, a NFJG tournament, only playing it as it is a Donald Ross design, same type she is playing at Pinehurst, then Worlds!!

HOT July Continues and Pinehurst

We are so sad to miss out on visiting Maine this summer. Can't seem to find a stretch of 6 or 7 days to make the trip. We can't travel there right before the Worlds Tournament as AA gets out of her golfing routine. After Worlds' her PGA Jr. All-Stars League starts (the 8th, Wednesday after Worlds, so only three days between) and then school begins on Tuesday August 14th! Summer goes by too quickly.
The week began with me working all five days (love it when I can work 4 - 10's occasionally). When I work five days, I can get home by 5 o'clock RH happy hour time! This time I went by myself as Ford and AA drove to Pinehurst for two days of practice rounds. They don't know the yardage yet as there was a recent course change; she is now playing on the Pinehurst #3 course.

They had pizza, salad at the Brixx restaurant which actually had a Maine beer on the list (Ford didn't order - boo!!).
They arrived home Tuesday in time for dinner and Ginger was so happy!
Wednesday and Friday continues to be her PGA Team practice at 5:30 p.m. along with two lessons weekly, plus Math tutor on Thursday's. Always busy.
Wednesday, AA went on a play-date to Ian's home, along with Jane and the Collins twins (other squad members were away at various camps). They played and had lunch together.
Plus Ian's two younger brothers (AA talked much about not having siblings at home, how much she would like that!). We always want what we can't have!
Saturday, July 14th we went to the MOSH (science and history learning museum) and saw the new exhibits, saw a reptile show with a baby alligator, read all about power plants at the JEA "Power Play" area; Mission: JAX Genius (pretty cool with autobiographies of past Jacksonville residents), National Geographic Presents Earth Explorers, (an epic adventure through six themed and immersive environments to discover new species; study animal behavior; and learn about the important roles that technology, innovation, and ingenuity play in making and documenting explorers’ discoveries. National Geographic Presents Earth Explorers will showcase the work of some of the most innovative and exciting National Geographic explorers! The six areas are Base Camp, Polar Regions, Oceans, Rain Forests, Mountains & Caves and African Savannas, bringing the unparalleled adventures of National Geographic to life.) and we attended the planetarium show about exploring Mars. Lots to do, so will plan to visit a few times each year.
The Polar bear was part of the National Geographic exhibit on exploration:

We enjoyed lunch at the Corner Taco, even though the food is good, we will try another place next time.
Sunday, besides having a lazy morning, watching Harry Potter weekend movies, we had delicious lunch of Ford's homemade red beans and rice leftovers; I made "Quaker Oats Best Meatloaf", mashed potatoes and peas for dinner while AA and her Daddy were at the last EH PGA Jr. golf match. AA's team, the Destroyers won the season. Next up is her All-Stars team matches in August.

Laureen Burke and Isabel - Saturday Afternoon Visit

With busy schedules and the Burkes going out of town for remaining of July, we squeezed in a visit Saturday. We wanted more time for swimming but rain threatened and dinner time called. We went to the River House with appetizers and pizza; visited with Maureen and Hugh also. Good times! I actually had one more glass of wine then I should have - oops!
Pick your favorite photo! Cuties with Ginger - dog!

We talked too much about our China journey, AA and her golfing, and how blessed our lives are - we have two girls who read more books than I have ever known! Hope to meet up again!

End of June to July 4th - Independence Day!

AA played with Noah all day, on Monday, July 02, 2018: played WiiU, Lunch at Sweet Sensations, Library and playground, watched Incredibles 2. Then we did the River House routine with hot-dogs, chips (Penny), pasta salad (Maureen), BBQ Beans by Kathleen. Colleen and Mark came and picked up Noah.

Wednesday - 4th of July! Homemade broccoli slaw, Carolyn brought BBQ beans and brownies. I made strawberry shortcake. Ford cooked the hamburgers. The early morning rain gave way to a nice breeze which kept the 90+ degree day bearable. We ate our mid-afternoon meal on the screen porch then played Rummique. AA and Carolyn each won a game; good game, takes some strategic thinking.
Carolyn left to visit a friend and we headed to Hugh and Maureen's home to watch the fireworks with Kathy's son (granddaughter Lydia wasn't feeling well).
Fireworks were impressive along with Hugh playing patriotic music in the background. Plus, Maureen and Kathy fed us well! Ham sandwiches, Outlaw chicken salad and plenty of BJ's Wellsely Cabernet wine.
Back to our routine - golfing daily for AA, practicing at the U.S. Kids Golf World's distances. I am back to work on Thursday (July WPOA Board meeting at 6:00 p.m.) and Friday. Thursday was Ginger's #2 BIRTHDAY! AA bought some dog treats at the RAM market last week, so Ginger had a special birthday "cake"!
Happy Birthday Ginger!
