Eagle Harbor NFJG - 2nd Place!

Beautiful day at Eagle Harbor!

18th Hole:
The winners! 2nd place!
A photo with Director Jack in it:
AA's score was very good with the exception of Hole #2. She hit into a bunker near the green and when she struck the ball to get it out (steep angle) it popped so high, went into a water hazard. Her overall playing was great and we always say that she has the potential to beat the competition on any given day. She came close today!
From Jack's Newsletter:
On Sunday, 56 TOUR Players teed it up in Fleming Island on another golf course in GREAT condition. A player’s favorite, Eagle Harbor Golf Club is a great track to slap it around. As head golf professional Marshall Collin’s is quoted as saying “The course is Popping and Looking Good”. Meaning the grass is growing and filling in nicely. Indeed he was correct, the course was in fabulous condition and here again the scores reflected it.
The battle continues in the Foundation Elite Division with Ryan Houck narrowly outscoring Alyzabeth Morgan. Houck stroked 78 times to win and take a bite out of the Gold. Morgan three shots back would be presented her third runner up medal to go with her five Gold Medals. Lucas Elliot with two wins this year would also shoot 81, but would lose in a scorecard playoff to Morgan and take the Bronze Medal.

AA's Golfing Distance, New Clubs and Ginger Pup

This week was beautiful weather! Foggy and cool in the morning (60's is cool!) and about 80 everyday in the afternoon. AA's Robotics Club restarted, played with Ms. Penny, plus two golf lessons a week. Busy!
AA's drive has gradually become longer and longer. Last April (10 months ago) we were so excited that she hit her longest drive at 180 yards. Now she is topping 200 yards! Ford bought her next set of irons (Mizuno) and she should be using them this summer. So glad he found a demo set, about 25% cost of a new set. This is AA's first true quality set, full weight, adult clubs, not youth. We will not be cutting them down, but will have them fitted for her (adjust the club head to her stance). She used the 7 iron so far and noticed the difference. She's growing up!

Saturday ended up being pretty busy after our plans to get AA on the UF golf course fell through. We went to the RAM market, bought some fresh vegetables, ate lunch at Hawkers Asian restaurant and a quick stop at the fun Boone park; we then headed to AA's golf lesson. She and her Daddy arrived home at 4:00 p.m. and we took Ginger to her new backyard, the Weigand's old home (getting ready to sell). This was the first time their dog, Scout was there. After much little dog barking, they had fun chasing each other and playing. Ginger was worn out! Extra bonus was that Jane was home with friend Abby. We enjoyed our much longer than planned visit with Jill and Jeff. Lovely family!
Grapefruits seemed to be the toy of choice:
The dogs enjoyed the extra activity:
I didn't think Jill would like her photo on the world-wide internet, so cropped to just the two dogs.
Boone Park fun:
Livi had a school fundraiser; we don't normally buy from these fund raisers, but found a few useful items from Yankee Candle (two lanterns, fire starters and pine ornaments).
Work is going well, loaded gypsum trucks for the past month, now loading limerock (sold to OUC).:
The beautiful weather continues!

Sunday 02/18/18 Golfing with Justin and Jesse's Birthday

With a new NFJG Tournament being played at the Palatka Golf Course in March, AA and Justin got together and played the course today, Sunday. The golf course is in good shape, very narrow fairways and Don Ross designed "turtle back" greens. Most of the greens are domed, so sticking it near the hole is difficult, most every chip has to have the right loft or the ball runs to the back and into a variety of hazards. It was crowded to day so Ford will get her back on the course on a weekday.

Waiting:
Hilly near the Ravines:
Waiting, lots of waiting today:
They were really laughing and of course, AA wouldn't allow a photo, turned away.
It was a good day. Justin looked a little tired, still getting over the cold/flu:
The Palatka Golf Course Map:
After golfing (through hole #14), we visited with Cathy and Werner, so nice to relax, visit, they fed us plus enjoyed a great Cabernet! Next it was off to Leaa's for a birthday bonfire for Jesse's birthday, all the family came.
Thumbs up for Jesse - Happy Birthday!
Three generations playing music:
The bonfire! We didn't stay long as my work morning begins very early the next day! No President's holiday for me!

Valentine's Day Week!

Another fun week! Tuesday, AA's golf lesson was cancelled early as the day seemed rainy and very foggy. After school, it was a much better day, still a bit cloudy and windy, so Daddy and AA played a round of golf. Wednesday (Valentine's Day) began the same way so Ms. Penny cancelled, was to rain. AA and her Daddy Caddie played nine holes.
AA received her latest reading score - 4.12 - 12.3. Wow! Reading through 12th grade. Amazing. She really enjoys books (as long as she picks them out!).
AA's class has been studying the planets, so found this cute small custom card for her to use for Valentine's Day. "You're Out of This World!". AA's favorite candy is tootsie rolls so the tootsie roll lolly-pop version was perfect to look like a planet. We could have used a smaller one too, didn't know there was a mini-tootsie roll pop, so gave everyone two pops.
She came home from school with lots of candy! She doesn't eat much, so we took all her stash of candy out of the refrigerator and sorted through the "old" candy and saved only what she loves - and yes, there was candy in there from last year's (2017) Valentine's Day!!

A new change in our household is using the "reusable sponge" for dryer sheets. We made the recipe and keep a plastic container with four half sponges. So far only one load of clothes came out of the dryer with a little static, otherwise it seems to be working fine. The bottle of Downy should last us a year! (there are alternative recipes, making a "dry" not wet dryer sheet using an old rag, baking soda and vinegar), we went simple using the liquid Downy)
The weather has been perfect this week, partly sunny and warm! I took some of my old clothes to Nicole's along with two V-day treats from AA (I mailed the tootsie pops to Chloe, Kim, Brandon and Anthony/Autumn too. It was also Chloe's birthday).
Friday: Weather beautiful! Jill, Jeff and Jane visited with us at the River House. It was a pleasant 75 degrees. AA had her golf lesson with Coach Bryan, then picked up chicken wings at V's Pizza. I picked up Chinese dumplings take out (Chinese New Year!) on my way home and we all met up at the River House. Always good to chat with the Weigand's and AA visiting with Jane.
AA has been back golfing regularly, lessons with Coach Bryan. She usually sees him on Tuesday and Friday and then again for group sessions on Saturday at noon. Yesterday, she played with Ryan H. and Emmet K. She will play in only four more NFJG Tournaments before June (Summer season begins), then skip the summer tournaments until she moves up to the older girls when the season begins in early October. Ready for President's Day Holiday - I head off to work Monday morning but A has no school!

Monday February 12, 2018 School, Robotics, Library, River House, Dinner and SURPRISE!

Monday was nice temperature, with clouds and some rain showers. Still a wonderful winter day. After school and Robotics Club, Ford and AA went to the library and then home to meet me at the River House. We made a new recipe of Slow Cooker White Chicken Chili which included a can of full-fat coconut milk! It was really good! (I may add a can of white beans next time). So good!
From Facebook: Yesterday was a milestone this family knew would happen soon. Didn't know when. Just knew that AA was so close. Always close. Such a fickle game. Consistency, repeatably, course conditions, equipment, weather, skill technique; all changes each day, each course, each hole. She made it under "80" for the first time from adult tees (red) in a TOURNAMENT! A Very Hard Course - North Hampton! Sweet Daddy-Caddie bought a cake to surprise her tonight. She knows that this is a new beginning. Big 79 to AA! Happy 2nd place among 18 boys and girls (ages 9 - 14).
Delicious cake! 79!!

Happy girl!
While we were all being silly and happy, I snapped some more photos of our girl and her puppy!
Ginger is all over AA - she's so big, she occasionally squishes and stomps on AA! A few pains for all this love!!
Happy week!!

Facebook Comments on AA's 79

I occasionally copy and paste the comments AA receives on a BIG accomplishment. This is one of those times, her first "under 80" in a tournament. NFJG North Hampton Tournament 02/11/2018

Wow, eighteen (18) kids entered in the Foundation Elite! (age range of boys and girls 8 - 14). AA did EXCELLENT! Her best score in an 18 hole tournament. And NO double bogeys! This is a hard course,North Hampton, her coach texted saying that she did very well! As AA improves, we have already planned to move her into the all girls group soon (13 - 15 years) at least by start of 2018-2019 season this October. She said she is ready! Receiving her second place award:

Ryan had a good round too, one stroke ahead of AA. Considering the ages of this group, the youngest prevailed - and two from Eagle Harbor!
AA's on-line scorecard:
From Jack's NFJG Newsletter: This week 72 player’s tee’d it up on one of the toughest and most demanding golf courses we play. The course itself is one of the best tests of golf around. Play this course well and I will guarantee you that you are a serious competitor in the game of golf. The course was in wonderful condition with greens on the slow side, but as I tell everyone this is an element of the game and you have to adjust, adapt and overcome if you want to win. All good players will. It’s no different than wind, rain, wet conditions, hot or cold. It’s a condition you must adapt to. The sooner one learns this the better you will be.
The fast growing Foundation Elite Division would have the largest field of the day with 21 registered players. Fleming Islands Ryan Houck would birdie three holes on the day to post a winning score of 78. All year he would be in the fight for the Gold and finally, on one of the toughest courses and amongst the largest field his goal of Gold is achieved. Houck would nip five times a champion Alyzabeth Morgan by just one lone shot. Morgan from Orange Park would proudly wear the Silver for her outstanding play. Miles Russell from Jacksonville Beach would take home Bronze for his efforts for his first event on the NFJG TOUR.
Waiting for them at home was this: I made a new recipe: homemade risotto with paprika shrimp. It was a success - thumbs up by all!
Official name: Parmesan Risotto with Roasted Shrimp:
We are all tired, so off to bed! Robotics begins again for AA (Monday), WPOA Board meeting (Tuesday), Valentine's Day (Wednesday), my hair cut is Thursday and then we have a quiet weekend - will do something for Chinese New Year, as we missed the FCFCC CNY event today.

Nice Weather for February!

A little rain, but warmer. Saturday and partly-sunny and mid-70's! Our week went well except for AA being sick at school on Tuesday. She slept that afternoon and into the morning. Woke up feeling fine, so after doing some homework and having breakfast she went to school late. She did make her first Math Club meeting right after the early dismissal day. They took it easy that afternoon, no golfing.
Work is going well, staying busy while the SJRPP is slowly getting cleaned, getting ready for demolition.
Thursday, we did go to the River House, always good to relax and visit. Friday, Ford and AA took off early from school to meet Ms. Penny at North Hampton for a practice round. They caught up to a young man, Cameron Widergren (age 17) who is also playing in the #NFJG tournament. Ford and AA enjoyed some BBQ on the way home.

Saturday, we splurged, spur of the moment - went to breakfast together at Metro Diner. We ate too much!! We took Ginger to the Weigand's old hone backyard for some exercisein the afternoon. Ginger spends alot of her time preoccupied with sniffing! We did get to the River House after that, still missing our Palace friends due to Hugh recovering from his knee surgery.
Weigand's backyard:

Sunday is the NFJG Tournament. Good Luck to AA!

It's February!

Early this week, AA was invited to join the OPE Math Club. Very proud she was selected from all 5th grade students, the top 12 participate with only six in the final team. She has extra math homework to get her prepared for the competitions.

Ford met up with Jean and Aiden at the River House to celebrate her new job. Some weeks, we go to the RH once a week, and others, it seems like we are there daily! With my work schedule, I usually arrive home too late!
Thursday, Ford made homemade taco cups; very good and we have plenty of leftovers. I took the day off from work to go to the dentist (excellent teeth!) and the PCP for my shoulder (ripped muscles from dog walking). I need to get an X-ray and keep ice on it for ten days. Then I will be re-evaluated. AA played golf with Ms. Penny and we went to the River House. We had several offers of neighbors back yards to exercise Ginger, now that I can't walk her for a while.
Friday, Ford took AA to her golf lesson, I arrived home later than usual. We had take-out, a V's Pizza, love that a new one opened up two weeks ago on Fleming Island.
Saturday morning I went BJ's shopping with cousin Carolyn; AA went with us too. It's good to stock up on essentials that are bulky and can be stored ahead. AA selected her case of vitamin water and Gatorade.
Then we took her to Eagle Harbor Golf for her group practice at noon. I went home and worked on cleaning up a small section of the garage, did laundry and warmed up leftovers for dinner. AA and I went for an evening shopping trip, she has out grown just about all her clothes! We bought two tops, a new bra and a pair of shorts. Will need to go to other stores to find some spring/summer clothes soon! She can wear the Juniors XS size now. Say goodbye to Girls sizes!
Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday, we began our day with breakfast by Chef Daddy/Ford, then bath for AA (her hair is very greasy and dry flakes too! - need to get her to a dermatologist!). I made a batch of mango black bean salsa - AA's favorite. So yummy! We have not had the very old fashioned/comfort "french onion" dip in a long time, so planned one last run to the grocery for those two ingredients.
We visited with Leaa and our two Grands, brought lunch from Smokin D's. Always a good choice. Then we headed to the Ancient City Brewery to get Ford's growler filled, then stopped by the very new V's Pizza on Fleming Island for a few orders of chicken wings. We were ready for the Super Bowl!! The Patriots (boo!) versus the Philadelphia Eagles (boo!). Drum roll...... the Eagles won!
At Leaa's: Everyone working their Minecraft worlds. Leaa showed us their plans for a rental unit on their property, will be a "rustic/deluxe" airbnb unit with beach access. Jesse is renovating their outside shower area into a full bath for these guests.
Next week, we are back to NFJG tournaments on Sundays.
