Has It Really Only Been 28 Months?

28 months LID plus The Paperchase...but who's counting.

The biggest problem with making lite of The Wait is being aware that while ours is coming to a close, for others the time line looms even longer. That sobering reality is enough, as a friend was oft to say, to make one sit down, shut up and color. In other words, we're thankful for our blessings while staying keenly aware of what others have before them.

Aly and I go back far enough in this journey to remember when the question was IF there was going to be a slow down in China referrals. Murmurs about IF a slowdown had started. We remember assurances handed out that The Wait would stop at 12 months. 18 months. 24 months. Fill in the _____ months...

Many have gone before us. We think we know a secret they carried near the end of their Wait. One of the "don't think about it - don't talk about it" kind of things. It's crept into our journey. Call it the Fear Card. You start thinking, please, don't deal us a bad card now after being in the game this long. No surprises. No rule changes. We're playing the cards dealt to us... And with that we have now chalked up number twenty eight. Rumors will soon be making the rounds for the June referrals. Each referral month carries significance. June is not our month. That's cool.

Now about those cards. Deal um' but lets keep it real, no fear cards if you please.....

Thanks for your comment on my blog! I hope you don't have to wait too much longer! A colleague at work adopted from China last year. She was a single would-be mother who was on the waiting list for several years, and just squeaked in under the wire before they changed the rules to disallow single parents last year. It all came together very quickly -- she found out in early December that she was matched & was off to China in early February.

All the best!

If it makes you feel any better, Sandy and I know exactly what you are talking about. I'm not sure how many trips I can take on this roller coaster. Let's hope for some good news this month and some even better news next month.

All our best,
Dave & Sandy

I know what you mean. I want to feel good about being this close and sometimes I do. Other times that fear seems to creep up on ya!

Wow 28 months! I knew the China wait was longer than the Korea one but I had no idea! You must be so patient! We were told our wait from now would be about a year - we did about six or seven months of paper chasing first. I hope you get that call soon! I love the name you have picked out!

What a fantastic post, you guys have great perspective... I still can't believe you've already waited 28 months. I commend you on keeping a positive outlook though... it's amazing.

Here's to July or August. I'm guessing our "imagining" will be over by summers end :)

Yes, 28 mos. We're right behind you with our 2/13/06 lid. Its a little hard to believe that its been so long. I am almost afraid of becoming too excited, waiting for the other shoe to drop but remain hopeful that things will work out. I keep trying to remember the mantra "it will happen, it will happen, it will happen" --keep smiling!

28 months -- who'd a thunk it?

I know exactly what you mean about the "fear" card (never had a name for it, though) -- you'll feel that way until Alyzabeth An is in your arms -- even until the red stamp is stamped on adoption day. On THAT day, you'll breathe a sigh of relief, not before.

This journey isn't for the faint of heart!

Only a while longer, Mama & Baba -- your sweet baby girl is almost within reach!

28 months...AMAZING! I never would have thought the wait would get to this point and beyond. I remember when we had to scramble to get the rest of the money when we received Lily's referral in 6 months (we expected to wait 12). We were so blessed!! Those were the days! I can't wait for you to be blessed soon too!

I have such respect for families who choose adoption as their route for completing their family. I cannot imagine waiting 28 months and knowing that there are many more months ahead of you.

So, got a call today from "our" agency saying we had to re-file again (time #3) for our I-171H, which I translated we wouldn't make it back in country by mid October. Ours expires on Oct. 12th and they said they are wanting all of their 27th LID families to have an expiration date much later in the month. Feeling so incredibly sad today. Talk about bubble burst. I don't officially have to do anything until June 12th, and yet it seems "hopeless" to hope for an unusually large batch in June so we don't have to do any extra paperwork.

Hang in there guys! You are going to be dealt the 'happily ever after card' and I don't know two people who are cooler than you guys or who deserve it more!

I can't wait to see her.

I sure hope July is your month. Your little girl will be so loved and welcomed - I wish more children in this world were as anticipated and treasured as your little one will be.

PIPO said...

I can relate very well to this post. It seems the closer we get the more honed the anxieties about something blowing up at the last minute. My good sense tells me we will both welcome our children home without any significant hitches. Still, the fear lurks.
